Expedition Overland

The Expedition Overland team prep the 2016 Toyota Tacoma for an overlanding road trip of -35F temperatures, winter conditions and ice roads! A heating system, new tires, food prep, camera storage and charging are some of the important things on the list. Crew members Richard and Ashley arrive from Canada and prepare for departure.

Despite facing challenges at the border, Richard and Ashley continue their overlanding adventure north! The winter camping is no joke as they learn how their roof top tent reacts to the cold weather. Ashley gives some tips on trip planning and they begin their winter overlanding, road trip with a visit to the scenic Icefields Parkway near Jasper, Alberta. Of course, they have to stop for a soak in the Liard River Hot Springs on the way before continuing up the Alaska Highway to Whitehorse, Yukon.

Richard and Ashley make their way from the Alaska Highway north from Whitehorse to Dawson City, Yukon. They have a chance to meet some amazing local residents and of course, try the famous Sourtoe Cocktail in Dawson City! The couple continues north on the Dempster Highway, winter camping and enjoying the remote but beautiful scenery and resident wildlife. It's not long before inclement weather conditions threaten these overlander's plans to travel further to the Arctic Circle and Northwest Territories where Ice Roads, epic scenery and Inuvik await!

The Expedition Overland team members, Richard & Ashley, experience northern life in the remote town of Inuvik! A day trip to the hamlet of Aklavik brings a history lesson, then it's off for a first time snowmobile ride, and a visit to an igloo with a familiar face from 2013! Dogsledding is also a must do for these overlanders as they are always up for a new adventure and it does not disappoint!

Richard and Ashley take advantage of a weather window to finish their overlanding adventure north. They hop back in the overland built Toyota Tacoma and continue on their winter road trip north to the Arctic Ocean, bordering the hamlet of Tuktoyaktuk. Weather problems continue to plague the team, with road closures and heater problems, but a little bit of luck and some patience proves to be worth it. The Northern Lights are a welcoming sight and these two overlanders continue to make their miles back home as the news begins to reach them of a changing world.
