Sniffles the mouse is in the country for a restful vacation, but the woodland creatures keep him awake and eventually frighten him into scurrying back to the city.

A Wild Hare (re-released as The Wild Hare) is a Warner Brothers Merrie Melodies animated short film. It was produced by Leon Schlesinger Productions, directed by Tex Avery, and written by Rich Hogan. It was originally released on July 27, 1940. A Wild Hare is considered by many film historians as the first "official" Bugs Bunny cartoon. The title is a play on "wild hair", the first of many puns between "hare" and "hair" that would appear in Bugs Bunny titles. Various directors at the Warner Bros. cartoon studio had been experimenting with cartoons focused on a hunter pursuing a rabbit since 1938, with varied approaches to the characters of both rabbit and hunter. A Wild Hare is noteworthy as the Bugs Bunny's true cartoon, as well as for settling on the classic voice and appearance of the hunter, Elmer Fudd. The design and character of Bugs Bunny would continue to be refined over the subsequent years, but the general appearance, voice, and personality of the character were established in this cartoon. The rabbit is unnamed in this film, but would be christened "Bugs Bunny" in his very next short, Elmer's Pet Rabbit, directed by Chuck Jones. The opening lines of both characters—"Be vewy, vewy quiet, I'm hunting wabbits" for Elmer, and "Eh, what's up Doc?" for the rabbit—would become catchphrases throughout their subsequent films.

Elmer's Pet Rabbit is a 1940 Merrie Melodies cartoon starring Bugs Bunny and Elmer Fudd. The short was released on January 4, 1941. It is the first cartoon in which Bugs is given his name (on a title card). It was directed by the legendary Chuck Jones, written by Rich Hogan, animated by Rudy Larriva, and the music was directed by Carl Stalling. It was produced by Leon Schlesinger and the film editor was SFX wizard Treg Brown. In this cartoon, Elmer buys Bugs Bunny in a pet shop and Bugs Bunny pesters him. Elmer is voiced by Arthur Q. Bryan and Bugs by Mel Blanc. The music in the cartoon includes a variation on "While Strolling Through the Park One Day" (Ed Haley), arranged by Carl Stalling, performed by Elmer and Bugs. Elmer, of course, has trouble with many of the words, due to his "rounded L and R" speech impediment.

The old fable reworked. Bugs is in a race with Cecil the tortoise, but Cecil has identical-looking relatives all along the track to relieve him.

Bugs is reading The Song of Hiawatha out loud to himself, and the saga turns real as a pint-sized, Elmer Fudd-like Hiawatha (minus the speech impediment) turns up, paddling his canoe. Hiawatha is looking for a rabbit for his dinner. In a key sequence (replayed in a later cartoon - see below), Hiawatha tricks Bugs into thinking he is preparing a hot bath for him. It is actually a cooking pot, which Bugs quickly vacates once Hiawatha casually mentions that he is having rabbit stew for supper. As with Elmer, Bugs spends the rest of the cartoon tormenting his would-be devourer, who finally breaks his arrows in anger and disgust, and paddles his canoe away while Bugsy finishes his reading of the poem. However, in the closing gag, the miffed-looking Hiawatha suddenly returns to the foreground where Bugs is reading the narrative, and after a second of wordless staring at each other, Hiawatha gives Bugs the "insulting kiss" that the Bunny usually bestows on others. Hiawatha then paddles away again, as Bugs "spits out" the kiss at the iris-out.

Bugs is being chased again, this time by a dog named Willoughby. The clumsy mutt is incredibly stupid, literally falling for Bugs' cons again and again. Bugs becomes a bit overconfident in his dealing with the dog, though, and finds himself falling for his own tricks. In the end, cartoon logic wins out over the laws of gravity--or does it?

All This and Rabbit Stew is a one-reel animated cartoon short subject in the Merrie Melodies series, produced in Technicolor and released to theatres on September 20, 1941 by Warner Bros. Pictures and The Vitaphone Corporation. It was produced by Leon Schlesinger and directed by an uncredited Tex Avery, with musical supervision by Carl W. Stalling and voices by Mel Blanc. The cartoon was the final Avery-directed Bugs Bunny short to be released. Although it was produced before The Heckling Hare (after the production of which Avery was suspended from the Schlesinger studio and defected to Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer), it was released afterwards. The title is a parody of that of All This and Heaven Too. Because the cartoon was released after Avery left Schlesinger, Avery's name does not appear in the credits. All This and Rabbit Stew is now in the public domain, after the copyright expired in 1969, one year after being banned from television Synopsis All This and Rabbit Stew features Bugs Bunny being hunted by a slow-witted Black hunter, very similar in speech pattern and mannerism to Stepin Fetchit. After Bugs outwits the hunter several times, Bugs wins all of his clothing through a dice game. The cartoon's central gag sequence, involving the hunter constantly ending up on the wrong side of a rolling log hanging over a cliff, was repurposed for Bob Clampett's 1946 Looney Tunes short The Big Snooze. For that film, the animation of the Black hunter was redrawn into animation of Elmer Fudd.

The sign greeting campers says, "Welcome to Jellostone National Park: A Restful Retreat." Elmer Fudd finds this to be a dirty lie when Bugs Bunny torments him for the fun of it. Bugs will trick Elmer into thinking day is night, mid-air is safe ground, and his rabbity self is a grizzly bear before Elmer commits an act he'll immediately regret.

The cartoon begins with the fattened version of Elmer Fudd prospecting for gold, singing "Oh! Susanna", except that instead of 1849, the cartoon is set during World War II, with the implication that Elmer hopes to donate the gold to the war effort: "Oh, Susanna, don't you cwy for me, I'm gonna get me wots of gold, "V for Victowy!", not to mention a "Buy US Savings Bonds and Stamps" sign shown early into the short. Bugs Bunny appears during the second verse and finishes it with Elmer, singing harmony. From that point on, in a role change from the usual, Bugs pesters Elmer without apparent provocation, as he did in Wabbit Twouble, from burying Elmer in the hole he was digging to cutting off Elmer's suspenders and revealing the girdle he's wearing: "Don't waugh. I'll bet pwenty of you men wear one of these." Instead of fleeing, this time Elmer turns toward revenge, especially when he observes that Bugs has a gold-filled tooth: "I'm came hewe for gold, and I'm gonna get it!" A furious fight ensues, and Elmer comes up the apparent "winner", holding up a gold tooth, saying, "Euweka! Gold at wast! Heh-heh-heh-heh!" Elmer grins and laughs his usual laugh, and at the same time Bugs mocks Elmer with the same words, dropped-"r" and laugh, revealing that his tooth is intact and that Elmer is holding his own knocked-out gold tooth. So now it turns out that Bugs is the actual winner.

Elmer Fudd is already hunting Bugs when he learns that he will inherit three million dollars from Uncle Louie if he doesn't harm animals, especially rabbits.

The short focuses on a lion who is trying to prove he is still "King of the Jungle" by hunting a small, defenseless animal. He chooses Bugs Bunny as his intended victim. The lion soon finds out that, in a battle of wits, he is the defenseless one. However, the lion eventually gets Bugs under one paw while raising the other one, claws extended, and looking angry; a truly frightened-looking Bugs could be facing his end. Just then the lion gets a phone call from his wife, changing the lion's demeanor from ferocious to meek. He apologizes to Bugs that he can't "stay and kill him," and then dashes home. Bugs ridicules the lion's apparent submissiveness, but we soon see that he has someone to answer to as well: his own wife, who sends Bugs slinking into the rabbit hole while "Mrs. Bugs Bunny" (according to the arrow pointing to her) shows the audience that she "wears the pants in this family." Mrs. Bugs' higher-pitched voice is similar to that of Tweety Bird minus the speech impediment. It is the sole appearance of a Mrs. Bugs Bunny, as Bugs is ever afterward depicted as a bachelor.

Mama Buzzard wants her children to learn to bring back meat for dinner. One buzzardling is shy and has to be kicked out of the nest. He's told to at least bring back a rabbit.

Mountie Elmer is on the trail of Bugs who's wanted dead or alive, "preferably dead". Elmer gets handcuffed to a bomb. Bugs looks through all Elmer's keys but can't seem to find the right one... Bugs foils Elmer with tricks like the Elmer-shaped snowman. Finally Bugs lets himself be arrested. Elmer takes Bugs back to the log stockade and puts Bugs up before a Mountie firing squad. But Bugs starts singing "Dixie". The stockade becomes a field of cotton, and all the Mounties, including Elmer, turn into singing Negro minstrels!

This time Elmer Fudd goes after Bugs using hypnotism, only the plan backfires.

Porky tries to relax on a hunting and fishing trip, but Daffy, smugly pointing out the "No Duck Hunting" signs, subjects him to constant irritation. Then the "Duck Hunting Season Open" signs start going up.

Ala Bahma the magician is nailing posters advertising his magic show everywhere, even on the tree home to Bugs Bunny. Bugs, not wanting to have a poster nailed over his home, ends up getting a pie in the face by the magician and vows revenge ("Of course you realize this means war"). Later, at the magic show, Bugs pulls many interesting gags to heckle the magician and even pretends to be a small boy from the audience who volunteers to help with a magic trick. Bugs then finishes it all off at the end with a pie in Ala Bahma's face and a Hawaiian song.

Bugs challenges Cecil Turtle to race, only this time he's wearing an aerodynamic suit like Cecil's. Unfortunately, the gambling ring has bet everything on the rabbit, and Bugs now looks like a tortoise.

Daffy challenges duckhunter Elmer to a boxing match, rigged in his favor with the collusion of the duck referee. In the stands, Elmer's dog Larrimore suspects that something funny is going on, but he's drowned out by Daffy's all-duck cheering section.

Bugs eats super carrots in Professor Canafrazz's laboratory which transform him. As Super Rabbit he goes to Texas to fight notorious rabbit hater Cottontail Smith.

Two goofy island castaways are dreaming about food (and imagining each other to BE food!) when Bugs Bunny washes up on the island. The castaways are intent on eating the rabbit, but Bugs manages to outsmart them time and again.

The second section, "Blue Danube", spoofs the tale of the Ugly Duckling, with a baby black duck not unlike a juvenile Daffy saving the day when the swans are threatened by a goofy buzzard.

Relaxing with a carrot at an army air field, Bugs is reading "Victory Through Hare Power," and scoffs at the notion of "gremlins," little creatures who wreak havoc on planes with their "dia-bo-lickal sabo-tay-gee." His reading is interrupted by a clanging sound, and it turns out to be a little wing-headed being pounding on a bockbuster bomb with a mallet.

Hollywood; Oscar night. After a live-action introduction establishing these points, Bugs Bunny says hi and begins blatantly lobbying for the Oscar that goes instead to James Cagney. Miffed, Bugs shows the audience a clip from Hiawatha's Rabbit Hunt, and the crowd gives it to him but not the Oscar.

Bugs is brought in out of a snowy night to warm up by the fireplace. Granny tells her dog Sylvester to be nice to the bunny. As soon as she leaves Bugs and Sylvester take turns throwing each other out into the night.

The bears tempt Goldilocks with carrot soup, the scent of which brings Bugs on the scene. Bugs romances Mama bear and she becomes infatuated with him.

Bugs lands on a Japanese-held island. He tries to outsmart one Japanese soldier by dressing as Emperor Hirohito, but the soldier isn't fooled. He recognizes Bugs from his Warner Brothers films produced by Leon Schlesinger. Bugs has trouble with a tough sumo wrestler but is able to outwit him by dressing as a geisha. Bugs finally rids the island of Japanese by driving up in his ice cream truck (which plays music from The Magic Flute!) and selling each one an ice cream with a secret grenade surprise.

Bugs is the Masked Marauder, a carrot thief whom Brooklyn's Red Hot Ryder must try to bring to justice.

Elmer wonders if he'll ever catch the rabbit; the voice of God takes him through a flash-forward to the year 2000. Elmer is equipped with a rocket-launcher rifle, but he's no smarter. He shoots Bugs, who shows him a photo album with baby pictures. We see a sequence of Bugs and Elmer as babies. Elderly Bugs digs his own grave and tricks Elmer into getting in.

That wascawwy wabbit is chased into a theatre by Elmer Fudd, and ends up having to perform to save himself, as well as convince Elmer to act himself. The vaudeville industry was never this wacky!

Bugs disguises himself as Hitler, Stalin and Brunhilde when he confronts Nazi Hermann Goering in the Black Forest.

Elmer Fudd is a dim-witted surveyor trying to lay out a new railroad track. When his work disturbs Bugs Bunny, he finds himself overwhelmed by the wascally wabbit's antics. Bugs' attempts to befuddle Fudd result in an explosive finish, as well as a patriotic warning to reduce unneccesary travel!

Yosemite Sam means to hold up the Superchief and Bugs is out to stop him.

Bugs is working as part of an outdoor display in a department store window when the store manager decides to have him stuffed as part of the Taxidermy department

Elmer Fudd buys Bugs Bunny from a meat market as he anticipates a nice rabbit stew. Bugs climbs out of his basket to tell him he's been robbed: the rabbit's gone! Incredibly, Elmer believes him. The dope eventually catches on when Bugs shoves him into the basket and then carries it himself. Somehow Elmer manages to get Bugs home, but the wily rabbit easily escapes. But wait! Why waste a great opportunity? Bugs returns to "heckle that character." He fools Elmer, through a faked radio program, into believing that there's an epidemic of something called "rabbititus" going about. Through Bugs's trickery he sees spots, a coat on Bugs's tongue and his own rabbity image reflected at him in a "mirror" that's really just Bugs after the glass has been removed. Dr. Killpatient arrives to help, but he has a suspiciously fuzzy tail. Still, it's we in the audience who may prove Bugs's ultimate dupes.

At a baseball game between the Gashouse Gorillas and the Tea-Totallers, a heckling Bugs Bunny is forced to play all positions against the brutish Gorillas. Naturally, their muscle is no match for Bugs' wit and pitching skill.

Elmer is a mad scientist working on a serum that will turn victims into monsters. He tries out the potion on Bugs, but it's unsuccessful. Elmer, however, gets Bugs mixed up with a bear, and assumes his potion works--with wacky results!

A wind-up toy in the shapely shape of a female rabbit lures Bugs Bunny out of his rabbit hole and into the castle of an evil scientist who looks exactly like Peter Lorre. The scientist wants to feed the rabbit to his huge, sneaker-wearing monster. The beast, completely covered in orange hair, is frightening enough to leave our hero temporarily speechless - forcing him to hold up a sign that says, "Yipe!" But Bugs Bunny is not easily cowed, and soon the wily rabbit is disguising himself in turns as a lamp, a chatty manicurist, a figure in a framed portrait and a knight on a charging horse, tricking and frustrating his nightmarish opponent at every turn.

A circus is being set up just above Bugs' rabbit hole causing much noise and vibration. The Lion cage is set up directly above the hole and the Lion takes deep sniffs (alternatively yanking Bugs towards the hole or throwing him back) to determine that the animal below is Bugs. When the Lion (whom Bugs eventually refers to as "Nero") roars again Bugs comes to the surface to see what's going on riding an elevator that makes twists and turns. Bugs tries to reason with the lion ("I'm the tenant downstairs and there's entirely too much noise!") but soon makes a hasty escape when Nero takes a swipe at him. Nero manages to get out of his cage and chases Bugs around the circus grounds. Bugs at one point ducks into a dressing room coming out as a clown trying to convince Nero to laugh ("COME ON LAUGH!") which he eventually does - until Bugs takes some whacks at the lion with a wooden board. The lion then chases Bugs into the big top where they swing around acrobat swings. Eventually Bugs tricks Nero into a cannon and sets the cannon off causing Nero to do a hula in his 'skirt' (complete with a lei from Bugs) while Bugs plays the ukelele to close the cartoon. Notes This cartoon was the first Looney Tune to end with "That's all Folks!" written out with the Looney Tunes theme music. The previous Looney Tune Kitty Kornered had the aforementioned ending but oddly used the Merrie Melodies ending music

Edward G. Robinson and Peter Lorre make it home to their hideout only to find Bugs already settled down there for the night.

Elmer Fudd walks out of a typical Bugs cartoon, so Bugs gets back at him by disturbing Elmer's sleep using "nightmare paint."

Bugs Bunny is a concert pianist. On his big night he sits to deliver Liszt's Second Hungarian Rhapsody but must overcome a cougher in the audience, distractions in his sheet music, hunger pangs and a troublesome musical mouse living somewhere within in his grand piano.

Daffy Duck cons a dog named Leopold into offering him a stay in his house, but he has to hide Daffy from his master, a Peter-Lorre style mad scientist who needs a duck's wishbone.

This time Bugs' race with Cecil Turtle features a rocket-powered tortoise shell.

Bugs' interview by gossip columnist Lola Beverly tells the story of his early life and especially of his confontation with a gang of dog toughs.

The lazy Easter Bunny tricks our redoubtable Bugs into delivering his eggs for him. Bugs Bunny is happy to do it until he encounters a nasty little toddler who sucks a pistol for a pacifier. After nearly getting killed by the boy's hillbilly family, Bugs tries to give the eggs back to the Easter Bunny, who whines some more and gets Bugs to continue with the job. Elmer Fudd is eagerly awaiting the Easter Bunny: he wants "Easter Wabbit stew." Bugs will thwart Elmer by cuddling him in the Tunnel of Love, performing a magic act on his watch, and sending the sadistic brat to beat him on the head. Then Bugs will realize it's time to take revenge on the Easter Bunny.

Foghorn convinces Henery that Sylvester is a chicken. Foghorn sticks Henery in an egg and sticks it under Sylvester.

Bugs is sailing the South Seas when a gorilla mother, desperate for a child, hijacks his barrel and presents Bugs to her husband. Bugs decides to play along, but quickly discovers his new "father" plays a bit rough.

A very stupid Indian goes hunting for Bugs.

Heckling the Champ gets Bugs into the world championship fight as the challenger.

Pirate Yosemite Sam chases Bugs all over the ship to find out where the buried treasure is.

Bugs is tricked into being the first rabbit shot into space. When he lands on the moon he finds Commander X-2 (later known as Marvin Martian) set to blow up planet Earth.

At the Eureka Experimental Hospital, a doctor plans to put the characteristics of a chicken into the brain of experimental rabbit No. 46, Bugs Bunny.

When Bugs arrives for his date with Daisy Lou and finds her out shopping, he puts on her clothes to fool his rival Casbah.

Bugs uncovers a magic lantern, which contains an exuberant but uncooperative genie. After being transported to fabulous Baghdad, Bugs is pursued by Caliph Hassan Pfeffer, who tries to take the lamp away from him. Hilarity ensues.

In Scotland, Bugs Bunny rescues a woman from a monster. The "woman" is a kilted Scot, and the "monster" is his bagpipe. The Scot challenges Bugs to a game of golf.

Elmer chases Bugs out of the woods, into the city, into a theatre.

Cotton pickers mistake Bugs' tail for a ball of cotton and toss him in with the rest of the haul. On the riverboat Bugs takes on the gambler Colonel Shuffle.

When Bugs finds out that the bounty for rabbits is only two cents, he asks the bounty commissioner why. He's told that the bounty is so low because rabbits are harmless animals. Bugs decides to change that by being a national menace.

When Fearless Freep, the high-diver, can't do his act, Yosemite Sam decides he's going to see the act he paid to see, by obliging carnival barker Bugs to take the dive into a glass of water.

Unfortunately for Brodie, each suggestion by Bugs results in more bad lack for the Irishman. Finally driven crazy by the site of Bugs in so many disguises, the goofy gambler takes his plunge off the bridge. At the end the old man, satisfied by the story, agrees to buy the Brooklyn Bridge from Bugs!

Opera star Giovanni Jones is trying to rehearse but Bugs is singing another tune while playing his banjo, then his harp, then his tuba. Jones destroys the instruments over Bugs' head, and, of course, "this means war." Revenge takes place when Bugs, as white-maned "Leopold", conducts Jones' Hollywood Bowl concert.

Bugs poses as the highly respected Leopold Stokowski to take over the conducting duties. This short was taken from the original Long Haired Hare short.

Bugs must joust with Sir Pantsalot of Drop Seat Manor when he tosses a partially eaten carrot into a suit of armor.

Bugs Bunny ends up at a dog race and decides to take in the show. However, the mechanical rabbit is released (for the dogs to follow), and Bugs falls head over heals in love with the "light brown hare"! Unfortunately, when Bugs sees all of the dogs chasing "that cute little bunny", he valiantly runs onto the track and starts to take down the dogs one by one! Things seem to be in the bag, unless you count a huge grey dog that isn't going to let Bugs stand in his way of winning!

Abandoned in the country by his old master, Charlie Dog tries to force himself upon farmer Porky Pig, playing upon his sympathies with a histrionic rendition of the horrors of big-city life.

Bugs buys the homes of the three little pigs and the wolf starts blowing them down. Of course you know "this means war."

Bugs rescues a penguin from an Inuit hunter at the South Pole and becomes obligated to it beyond his wildest dreams.

A mouse is about to commit suicide by jumping off a pier when he is saved by baby kangaroo Hippety Hopper. In exchange for the mouse releasing him from his shipping crate, Hippety agrees to help the mouse humble his tormentor, Sylvester Cat, by making Sylvester think that vitamins have enlarged the mouse to Hippety's size, and when Sylvester fights the "giant mouse", he loses in the usual embarrassing way- this time, in front of a chiding bulldog.

An African witch doctor is cooking up a potion in his big black pot. He has the lizard tongue, fish eyes, gnats' eyebrows, jigger of xxx, bee-stingers, leopard spots and frogs' legs. But he throws a screaming tantrum when he discovers that he's out of rabbit. Meanwhile, Bugs Bunny decides to go to Kuka Munga (one mile) instead of Hubba Hubba (also one mile). He made a bad choice. He meets the witch doctor, who captures him and throws him into his pot. Bugs at first thinks the doc is offering him a hot bath. But when he smells himself cooking, he realizes the horrible truth. Bugs will have to disguise himself as a native female and battle an alligator before his latest adventure is over.

While eating breakfast, Papa Bear reads a newspaper advertisement for a trick bear act and decides his family will audition for said act. The bear family practices each act, but Junior Bear continuously ruins the rehearsal (usually through his stupidity or weight). In the end, a frustrated Papa Bear discovers the ad in question came from a April 1928 newspaper. He tries to commit suicide but is saved by Junior, who gets clocked for his trouble!

A Shakespearian dog, tired of being a pie-in-the-face looney tune, quits Warner Brothers to study dramatic acting and goes to his country house to practice the bard. He finds that two polite twin gophers have taken over his abode and angrily throws them out. They retaliate by violently heckling him in comical accordance with his Shakespeare speeches.

While unwittingly trespassing in the royal gardens in search of carrots, Bugs runs afoul of the Sheriff of Nottingham, who tries to apprehend him for poaching. The royal grounds are, in fact, amply posted with "No Poaching" signs (one reads "Not even an egg"), but Bugs either didn't see or ignored them. Of course, Bugs sets out to endlessly turn the tables on the hapless sheriff, at one point talking him into building a six-room Tudor home in the middle of the King's gardens. The dueling pair are periodically interrupted by a fat, dopey Little John who proclaims, each time he appears, "Don't you worry never fear, Robin Hood will soon be here". In the end, the merriest of merry men does appear and it's...it's...oh, see it yourself. Bugs goes in disguise as the King, who then knights the Sheriff ("Arise, Sir Loin of Beef...").

Hurdy gurdy operator Bugs must get rid of his Chimp when the ape steals the take from him. The replacement ape is is a Gorrilla.

Shanghai Sam needs a new crew for his ship. Bugs signs on but rebels at the captain's cruelty.

It's morning and Bugs Bunny is awake. It doesn't look like he had enough rest though. He looks around and sees he is high up in the sky. Bugs' hole has become part of an construction site and a bulldozer is ready to move his hole to destruction. Bugs makes an emotional plea to move his home back to it's original place and the construction worker seems touched. But his intentions aren't that well. Bugs Bunny swears revenge.

Bugs Bunny escapes hunters by leaping into his rabbit hole and tunneling to safety. Unhappily he tunnels into the Sing Song prison where a sadistic prison guard named Sam Schultz refuses to accept that he's anything but one of the prisoners. Soon Bugs is in stripes, but it's the guard who will find prison life to be hell when Bugs Bunny is around to trick him into a cell, the hangman's noose, an electric chair and even into the warden's office, where Bugs will put a severe strain on the relationship between boss and underling. Finally, Sam decides that enough is enough.

The Disassociated Press wants Bugs Bunny's life story. Got a pencil? "First," says Bugs, "I was born." He quickly learns he is different from the other children: he's a "rabbit in a human world." He grows up to accept repetitive chorus boy jobs in such Broadway revues as "Girl of the Golden Vest," "Wearing of the Grin" and "Rosie's Cheeks." His career hits the skids and he's living on a park bench before he's discovered by that great vaudeville star, Elmer Fudd. Their dual comedy act is a hit, which leads to film roles. Will Bugs Bunny ever have to look back?

Bugs helps a penguin go home via New Orleans, Martinique, the Panama Canal and finally the South Pole. But the penguin's home is in New Jersey.

While vacationing in the Ozark Mountains, Bugs Bunny encounters Curt and Pumpkinhead Martin, two dimwitted hillbillies who are duped by Bugs into a violent square dance.

Ever in search of a master, no matter how unwilling, Charlie winds up on a plantation down South and tries to force himself on the owner, a Confederate Colonel. Unfortunately, the Colonel already has a pet bulldog, "Belvedere."

Behind the Hollywood Bowl stage which is playing the opera, The Barber of Seville, Bugs Bunny flees into the backstage area with Elmer Fudd in close pursuit. Seeing his opportunity to fight on his terms, Bugs raises the curtain on Elmer, trapping him on stage. As the orchestra begins playing, Bugs comes into play as the barber who is going to make sure that Elmer is going to get a grooming he will never forget.

In 1492, Bugs Bunny sails the ocean blue, as mascot for Christopher Columbus.

The big wrestling match: The Crusher vs. Ravishing Ronald. Ronald's mascot is Bugs Bunny ("it's a living"). But Ronald is massively outmatched by The Crusher, and Bugs, seeing his meal ticket threatened, quickly substitutes as "The Masked Terror." But Bugs is no match for him either, at least on a pure physical level. So it's time for Bugs to apply "strategy." He rips his mask, making Crusher think it was his pants fortunately, Stychen Tyme, the tailor, is handy - complete with needle to stick in a sensitive spot. Enraged, Crusher charges, right through the giant safe, into the ropes; Bugs closes the door, Crusher crashes into the safe and is dazed. Bugs suggests he rest up on this nice soft mat...

Daffy Duck and Bugs argue back and forth whether it is duck season or rabbit season. The object of their arguments is hunter Elmer Fudd.

Bugs Bunny, in his eternal quest to reach a vacation spot via Albequerque, accidentally arrives in Paris' restaurant district. Two crazy chefs, Louis and Francois, spot Bugs and fight to be the first to use Bugs as a dinner ingredient. Bugs' plays off the hapless Frenchmen's greed by offering to teach them a recipe created by Antoine of New Orleans ("I don't mean Antoine of Flatbush!").

Yosemite Sam is running for mayor, and one of his campaign promises is to get rid of all the rabbits. When Bugs runs against him as the "pro-bunny" candidate, Yosemite uses a number of elaborate stunts to eliminate his opponent (which all backfire). In the end, they're defeated by a dark horse candidate (an actual dark horse!).

Bruno, a Slobokian bear (whatever that is) and a circus acrobat, does not take kindly to having Bugs Bunny join his previously solo act at Colonel Korny's World Famous Circus. Somehow, during a performance, an anvil ends up where Bugs's head should go. Fool him once, shame on the Slobokian bear. But Bugs won't be fooled twice. He's ready for Bruno's dirty tricks throughout the rest of the act and has a few tricks of his own. Somehow Bruno ends up taking several falls into a kettle drum before finding himself competing with Bugs in a high diving act. Will Bugs or Bruno take the dip?

Wile E. Coyote, nemesis of the Road Runner, makes the first of several attempts to use Bugs Bunny to satisfy both his craving for food and his mental craving for the thrill of capturing some helpless desert animal with an elaborate scientific contraption.

Bugs is provoked by a pack of foxhounds and their hunters stampeding over his hole, so he gets out his Halloween costume from last year (a fox suit) and sets out to lead the dogs on a merry chase. The stupidest of the dogs, whose objective is to cut a fox's tail off, becomes his main victim; Bugs tricks him into chasing a train instead. He eventually tricks the dog pack into running off a cliff, but the stupid dog ends up with Bugs' tail.

Bugs Bunny is too sound a sleeper to notice that a sudden rainstorm has flooded his rabbit hole and sent his mattress, with him on it, floating downstream toward a castle with helpful neon signs that say "Evil Scientist" and "Boo." Said Evil Scientist needs a brain for his mechanical monster, and when he sees Bugs Bunny floating by, decides a rabbit's brain is as good as any other. Bugs Bunny awakens to the horror of reposing mummies, an Evil Scientist with a huge, green head and an enormous robot waiting for its brain. Bugs tries to escape, but the scientist sends Rudolph after him. Rudolph is an unlikely beast covered with orange fur; it wears sneakers, but why not? Who says monsters don't have sensitive feet? Bugs poses as a chatty hairdresser, uses vanishing fluid on himself, and pours reducing fluid on the beast to thwart him. But Bugs's only weapon against the Evil Scientist will be a broken bottle of ether. Will it be enough?

Marvin Martian arrives on Earth with his soldier dog, K-9, under orders to bring an Earthling back to Mars, and he decides to take Bugs, who commandeers Marvin's spaceship.

A Texas oilman fights Bugs over property rights to his rabbit hole.

Daffy Duck has signs hanging from every inch of every available tree announcing that it's rabbit season. But, you guessed it - it's really duck season. Elmer Fudd appears: he's the only hunter alive dumb enough to fall for the gag. He's even dumber than that. When Bugs Bunny strides up to him and asks how the rabbit hunting is going, Elmer admits that he hasn't seen a rabbit yet. This is more than Daffy can stand. He emerges from his hiding place and immediately points to a rabbit: Bugs Bunny. "Shoot him now!" Daffy screams. "You be quiet," says Bugs. "He doesn't have to shoot you now." Daffy insists that he does. After Daffy returns his blasted-off beak to his head, he is doomed to more arguments infected with "pronoun trouble" which all have the same result. Later, Bugs dresses as a sexy woman and flirtingly ask Elmer for a duck dinner. Will Daffy get the last laugh? "Ha, ha, very funny! Ha, ha, ha!"

Shorty, a school-age rabbit with a high-pitched voice, jumps into Bugs Bunny's rabbit hole to escape the clutches of the villainous, but extremely stupid, Pete Puma, whose distinctive speech climaxes in an ear-splitting screech. Pete tries to trick Bugs and Shorty with an exploding cigar. Doesn't work. The cigar says "El Explodo" right on the wrapper. He tries to trick them by disguising himself as Shorty's mother. Doesn't work either. His rabbit ears are leaves that are inelegantly affixed to his hat. How can this poor, pathetic puma win the day? Smarter opponents than he have failed to outwit the wily Bugs Bunny.

Bank robber Yosemite Sam forces Bugs to try to fly the largest airplane in the world.

Bugs mistakenly gets his neighbor's draft notice and causes a stir when he shows up as ordered.

Daffy is harassed by an unseen, trickster animator, who keeps changing backgrounds on him, messes with the soundtrack, switches props and humilates him with buffoonish costumes.

Elmer Fudd brings home a rare plant and Bugs Bunny.

Bugs heads toward the record carrot crop in Alabama but runs into Colonel (Yosemite) Sam who is under orders to let no Yankee cross the Mason-Dixon line.

Yosemite Sam hears that Granny has inherited fifty million dollars. Good guy Bugs tries to save Granny from Sam's clutches.

Space hero Duck Dodgers, along with Eager Young Space Cadet Porky, travel to Planet X in search of Illudium Phosdex, the shaving cream atom. Unfortunately, Commander X-2 arrives in his "Martian Maggot" spaceship with his own designs on the place.

Elmer Fudd goes hunting in January, unsure of what game is legal for the season, and Daffy Duck and Bugs Bunny, to avoid being shot at, mislead him into thinking it's dirty skunk, pigeon, mongoose, and baseball season!

Bugs will not bend to the threats of Pirate (Yosemite) Sam.

When Bugs calls a cab he doesn't know it's the getaway car for a couple of bankrobbers (he does know the capital of Nevada).

A construction worker wants to blast Bugs out of his rabbit hole so he can build a freeway.

All the animals in the forest, including animals one would not expect to find in the forest, are fleeing for their lives. Bugs Bunny manages to stop a turtle (by blocking its path with a shovel) and asks him what all the excitement is about. "The Tasmanian devil is on the loose!" cries the turtle. Bugs looks up "Tasmanian devil" in his encyclopedia and discovers that it's a "strong murderous beast" that eats just about any animal. It doesn't mention rabbits, and so the Tasmanian devil, who has been reading over Bugs's shoulder, pencils in "rabbits" himself. Bugs calmly asks, "What's up, doc?" He then spends the day tricking the wild, snorting, snarling beast with a bubble-gum chicken, a decoy deer, a giant slingshot and finally a classified ad in the Tasmanian Post-Dispatch.

While walking through the woods one day, Bugs stumbles into the fairy tale of Hansel and Gretel. Seeing the tykes in trouble, he decides to step in and rescue the greedy pair. No good deed goes unpunished, however, as the rather hungry witch decides that a rabbit would be an acceptable substitute ingredient for her dinner.

Sylvester's carnivorious pursuit of Tweety Bird continues, chasing the canary onto the ledge of a tall building. He plummets to the sidewalk below, losing one of his nine "lives"; the spirit descends into Hell, where the puddy tat meets up with a Satanic bulldog. There, the bulldog encourages Sylvester to risk his remaining eight "lives" chasing the bird in the most dangerous of situations. Sylvester loses his second "life" when crushed beneath a steamroller; his third frightened after realizing he chased Tweety into a carnival tunnel (that had a lion's mouth opening); "lives" four through seven while on a shooting gallery; and his eighth just after grabbing the bird on a speeding roller coaster car. The Satanic bulldog reappears and demands Sylvester "go get him"; the puddy tat resists temptation and takes refuge in a seemingly safe bank vault. Sylvester soon regrets his move.

Bugs lectures his nephew Clyde about early America, inserting himself into events wherever possible.

Bugs Bunny stumbles on the carrot patch of Paul Bunyan, but doesn't realize that it is guarded by a 124-foot, 4,600-ton dog named Smidgen.

Daffy Duck is a Wild West outlaw named "The Masked Avenger", righter of wrongs and doer of heroic deeds. Porky Pig is his sidekick. Together, they search for Nasty Canasta, a villain whose crimes include gag-stealing and square dancing in a round house. When they find Canasta's hideout and Daffy challenges Canasta to a duel, Canasta flexes his hulky muscles that entirely rip away his shirt, and proceeds to pound Daffy into a stupor.

Baby-faced Finster robs a bank, but the baby carriage with the money in it goes down Bugs' rabbit hole.

When a beanstalk sprouts from a rabbit hole, Jack (Daffy Duck) climbs it. So does Bugs (his bed went up with it). And Elmer is the mean Giant.

In this tale of role-reversal, Elmer Fudd (the president of an unnamed company) somehow believes he's a rabbit running scared from hunters' gunfire. This fact is not lost on the corporate board, who agree to place the delusonal Fudd in an asylum, where he dons a rabbit's costume and eats carrots. Elmer sees arch-rival Bugs Bunny walking by and tricks him into switching places. After Elmer leaves, the psychiatrist assigned to Fudd's case enters the room and (after having the bunny down a pill) gets the clueless Bugs to endlessly repeat the phrase: "I am Elmer J. Fudd, miwwonaire. I own a mansion and a yacht!" Later, Bugs (now convinced he's Elmer Fudd) leaves the mansion and goes hunting. After a series of hunting gags with Bugs getting the worst end of things this time the authorities come to take Bugs (still thinking he's Elmer) away for income tax evasion...

Bugs argues with the cartoonist who creates him over how he should be drawn.

Parody of "This is Your Life," with Elmer Fudd as the host and Bugs Bunny as the guest of honor, much to the disgust of Daffy Duck. On several occassions, Granny has to whack Daffy over the head to get him to be quiet. Meanwhile, Bugs reminisces with Elmer and Yosemite Sam about their previous encounters (reviewed via footage from past Bugs Bunny cartoons). Elmer and Sam plan to present Bugs with a special gift (a time bomb) in appreciation of their "friendship," but Daffy (still believing he was meant to be the guest) grabs the gift and takes the resulting explosion.

Porky and Sylvester's desert campground is sliced away and towed into outer space by a green, bird-like Jupiterian searching for earthly animal life. But Porky remains blissfully unaware, leaving Sylvester to be terrorized by the alien.

Yosemite Sam, as head of a Roman legion, is ordered by Emperor Nero to find a victim to toss to the lions. Or else, he'll be the victim. Sam meets up with Bugs Bunny and decides Bugs will make a good victim. But it's Sam and Nero who end up as lion food.

While cooking a tin can, the Coyote spots a better meal rushing by- the Road Runner. But making himself into a giant arrow doesn't catch the bird, and the book, "How to Tar and Feather a Road Runner", isn't much help either.

A documentary-styled cartoon in which a behavioral study of the effects of different headgear ensues by constantly changing the hats on Bugs Bunny and Elmer Fudd and inducing them to enact the personalities suggested by the hats that land on their heads.

Witch Hazel's claim to be the ugliest witch of all is threatened by a Halloween witch who turns out to be Bugs trick-or-treating.

On the French Riviera, a female cat is frightened by sudden outbursts of barking by every dog around her. So, to scare them away, she paints her back with a white stripe like that of a skunk. The dogs, on seeing her stripe, run away and hide in fright. But she doesn't receive the peace she'd expected, because Pepe Le Pew, the amorous French skunk, sees her, thinks she's a girl skunk, and tries to make love to her.

Crusoe, played by Yosemite Sam, has been living off coconuts for 20 years when Bugs washes up on his island.

Bugs Bunny, on his way to San Fransisco in the Barbary Coast days, discovers a large gold boulder and is swindled out of it by a crook named Nasty Canasta. So, Bugs comes to Canasta's casino in San Francisco and cleans him out of all his loot.

Bugs Bunny boards the Chattanooga Choo Choo and finds Ralph Kramden and Ed Norton, from "The Honeymooners" TV show. Ralph and Ed are starving, and when they set eyes on Bugs, they yell, "It's foooooood!"

Foghorn's annoying college buddy, Rhode Island Red, comes for a visit and then won't leave. What's worse, he muscles in on Foggy's harem and reverses most of Foggy's traps and tricks. A football session with an exploding casaba melon backfires when Red returns the pass; the exploding golf balls only explode when Foghorn hits them, and the fist in the camera only pops out when Foggy examines it to figure out what went wrong. But Foghorn finally gets the last laugh with a phony telegram about an inheritance and an exploding bowling ball as a parting gift.

Daffy Duck must double for Bugs in any slapstick which Warners considers too dangerous for its star Bug Bunny.

Bugs Bunny decides not to be the victim in Elmer's "The Sportman's Hour" TV program and is chased through other shows at the studio.

Wile E. Coyote consults a "Univac Electric Brain (Do It Yourself)" in his efforts to catch Bugs.

Bugs and Daffy are tunneling their way to a vacation spot (with Bugs doing all the work, naturally), when a wrong turn lands them in a cave in the middle of the desert. Daffy's true nature once again shines through when the cave is discovered to be full of treasure. Daffy's glee quickly turns to terror, however, when Hassan the guard (whose only orders are "chop!") catches him with his hands in the gold.

Bugs Bunny is parachuted by airplane in a carrot crate down to Tasmania, where he, of course, meets the Tasmanian Devil.

Young Ralph Phillips is scolded for breaking a window and sent to his room, where he lets his imagination run riot and fantasizes he is in prison, next that he is in Africa, and then that he is a space ace pilot who single-handedly thwarts a Martian invasion.

In the Alps Bugs and Yosemite Sam vie for 50,000 Cronkites, the prize for the who "climbs the Schmatterhorn."

One of Chuck Jones' all-time greatest masterpieces and among the finest of all animated shorts of all time, "What's Opera, Doc?" lampooned classic opera by using its elements to set up the latest chapter in Elmer Fudd's hapless pursuit of Bugs Bunny. We open with a silhouette of a mighty Viking arousing ferocious lightning storms ... only to find it's Elmer -- this time as the demigod Siegfried. Elmer admonishes the audience (in classical verse) to "be vewwy quiet, I'm hunting wabbits!" It's not long before Elmer comes upon Bugs' hole and sings out "Kill the wabbit!" not realizing that the hare has already climbed out and is viewing Elmer spearing fruitlessly in said hole. Bugs joins in the fun, querying his tagline in operatic verse and leaving Elmer in his dust (but not before "Siegfried" shows us an example of supposed "mighty powers" from his spear and magic helmet)...

Bugs Bunny finds that gangsters Rocky and Mugsy have chosen his new abode, a condemned building, as their hideout. Bugs manipulates them into attacking each other to prove that crime doesn't pay.

Elmer Fudd's Uncle Judd gives him a huge, lovesick Slobovian rabbit who falls for Bugs Bunny.

An absent-minded wolf sets out to catch Bugs for dinner but keeps forgetting what he was heading out to shoot in the first place.

Daffy play Robin Hood who is so intent that he is the real Mccoy to Friar Tuck (Porky) that he ends up convincing everyone, including himself, that he is not.

While Bugs is sleeping, a rocket is placed over his hole. He climbs abord and finds himself in space, where Marvin the Martian has finished his laboratory research and is about to destroy the Earth; it's up to Bugs to save the world.

Big Bad Wolf and his little nephew try to trap Bugs Bunny by making like fairy tale characters.

Wile E. Coyote hopes to catch the Road Runner using a mallet, a cooking pan, a TNT stick, a balloon, and a piano dropped from a precipice. The last of these results in Wile E. falling to the road below along with the piano and ending up with 88 teeth.

Bugs discovers a Micronesian Film Documentary in "Cromagnonscope" showing Elmer Fuddstone and a sabertooth bunny in 10,000 BC.

Bugs conducts the Warner Brothers Symphony in Franz von Suppé's "Morning, Noon, and Night in Vienna" while reacting to a bothersome fly.

Bugs entertains the Sultan with tales from his cartoons: "Bully for Bugs", "Sahara Hare" and "Water, Water Every Hare".

The drunken stork loses his baby ape for Mr. and Mrs. Elvis Ape on a jungle island. So, he knocks out Bugs Bunny and delivers him instead.

1896, Dawson, Alaska. Thus, the setting for Bugs' first of two encounters with Black Jacque Shellaque, a ruthless French-accented villain. A snow-covered Bugs walks into the saloon with a bagful of gold nuggets (which the rabbit calls "rocks"). Though the rocks have no value to Bugs, that means nothing to Jacque, who believes the bunny is out to get rich. Gags include Bugs' and Jacque's blackjack game, where the rabbit standing on one card (a "21" card) and Bugs substituting the bag of gold nuggets with a one filled with gun powder. The powder leaves a trail behind Jacque, who gloats at his "victory," but Bugs' lighting the trail aborts the villain's celebration.

Shakespeare is all ears as Bugs battles Witch Hazel in Macbeth's castle.

Daffy Duck manages to get Bugs into a TV studio in order to win the thousand dollar bounty.

In his Hollywood home Bugs is being interviewed by the Edward R. Murrow TV show "People to People" when Daffy and Elmer show up.

Sam, the Duke of Yosemite, will inherit one million pounds if he can keep his temper in check. Thing is, he has to endure Bugs Bunny as his house guest.

While on vacation, Bugs and Daffy take a wrong turn and get lost in the Himalayas. There they encounter the Abominable Snow Man, who happens to be looking for a pet, promising that he will "love him and hug him and call him George." Neither Bugs nor Daffy are too eager to become the object of his affection.

Bugs battles Wile E. Coyote. A ten trillion volt electric magnet draws everything imaginable.

Viking Yosemite Sam arrives to storm the castle. But Bugs takes charge of the defenses, and between Bugs' cleverness and Sam's stupidity, the castle is never seriously threatened, even when Sam enlists the help of an elephant.

Bugs Bunny is enjoying his morning shower under a waterfall, singing "April Showers," when the water flow gets cut off. Bugs, thinking at first beavers are responsible, he climbs up the cliff to investigate. He meets Black Jacque Shellac, a ruthless lumberjack who wants to control the water supply. Bugs tricks the French-accented Jacque into removing a tiny rock in the dam to dislodge it. Jacque builds more dams, and prepares for what he thinks is the rabbit pulling more tricks; but of course Jacque and his dams get the worst end of a real shark and a barge full of dynamite. Certain Bugs will make more attempts to destroy his dam, the villainous Jacque fires his rifle at the waterfalls but winds up wrecking the rabbit's record player. Jacque builds "the perfect dam," one made of steel, but this time, the rabbit fights back with a series of his own. Using a cannon...

The Tasmanian Devil finds Bugs cooking dinner underneath a beach boardwalk.

Another in a series of Warners' economy cartoons featuring clips from previous Bugs Bunny-Yosemite Sam cartoons. After Sam is killed in each pursuit, he meets with the devil, who goads him into continuing to chase the bunny. Eventually, Sam balks and, donning a devil's outfit, tells the devil, "If you want him, you can get him yourself! I'm staying!"

Bugs races Daffy to get to the TV station first and win the prize on the "Beat Your Buddy" show.

Bugs, with the help of some Acme Super Speed Vitamins, is filling in for the roadrunner, who "sprained a giblet." Fortunately, even when the vitamins fail, Bugs can outwit the coyote, though as usual, the coyote outwits himself much of the time. Most complex gag: Wile E., atop a large cliff, has set out a target and a carrot. Bugs stops, the anvil drops, and Bugs appears atop the cliff, target in hand. He puts the target on Wile E.'s head, the anvil hits, and the cliff-side falls, taking Coyote with it. Bugs removes the target, the anvil falls and misses! Wile E., relieved, walks away into the path of a truck.

In a spoof of TV's "Untouchables" Rocky and Mugsy chase "Elegant Ness" (Bugs) through the ACME cereal company.

Marvin Martian is monitoring through his telescope a rocket launch on Earth. The rocket heads straight for him and lands on Mars. The only occupant is Bugs Bunny, lured into Cape Canaveral by a carrot and sent to Mars as an expendable "astro-rabbit". Bugs is to claim Mars in the name of the Earth, but Marvin won't allow an Earth creature to contaminate his atmosphere. He trains a time-projector gun on Bugs and reverts the bunny to a Neanderthal Rabbit, who crushes Marvin with one hand.

After getting lost on his vacation, Bugs ends up in the middle of Transylvania. He decides to get a room for the night in a nearby castle, which of course turns out to be home to a vampire. The bloodsucker is looking to make Bugs his next meal, but the bunny has a few tricks, as well as a few magic words, up his sleeve.

On a travel tip from Ray Bradbury, Bugs ends up in King Arthur's time and is mistaken for a "dwagon" by the always astute Sir Elmer of Fudde.

Yosemite Sam is miserly Ebenezer Scrooge in this spoof of Charles Dickens' classic tale. Porky Pig, as Scrooge's clerk, Bob Cratchit, is fired on Christmas eve for the unpardonable act of using coal to keep warm. When Scrooge evicts Cratchit and his family from their modest dwelling, heroic Bugs Bunny decides to dress like a ghost and teach the hot-tempered miser a lesson on the meaning of Christmas.

During Christmastime, a pair of pilots flying a wild Tasmanian Devil over the North Pole to Australia lose the beast, who ends up inadvertently donning Santa Claus' garb and saddling in St. Nick's sleigh. Meanwhile, Bugs is reading to his nephew Clyde Twas the Night Before Christmas when "Santa" shows up. Bugs sends Clyde off to bed and has some fun with the Tasmanian Devil Santa Claus.

Bugs Bunny is abducted by Marvin the Martian and brought to Mars to be the companion to his pet abominable snowman Hugo, who will "hug him and squeeze him and call him George."

In Casablanca, Bugs Bunny runs an American bar and only looks out for himself. When he is given secret papers that will help defeat the rule of General Pandemonium. However when Bugs falls for Kitty, the wife of the leader of resistance, things change for him and he finds himself having to put himself on the line.

The short opens with a special 51½ Anniversary Celebration of Bugs Bunny. Once that is finished, what happened earlier that day is shown, with a backstage look at Bugs, Daffy, Yosemite Sam, and Elmer Fudd (featuring 3D rendering of the scenery). They attempt a performance, which results in a series of animated "bloopers." (Blooper) Bunny is an eight-minute Merrie Melodies cartoon, produced in 1991 the short is a parody of some of the specials produced for Bugs Bunny's 50th anniversary the previous year. The short never received its intended theatrical release and was shelved for several years. It was finally given a television premiere on June 13, 1997, after Cartoon Network discovered the film sitting unseen in the vaults. During the years since its rediscovery, the cartoon has garnered a huge cult following among animation fans because of its edgy humor.
