Before Jesus Christ appeared to the people of Ancient America, they suffered through extreme disasters – earthquakes, storms and fires claimed countless lives and destroyed entire cities. Three days of darkness began. During the time of vast darkness, widespread suffering caused the surviving people to cry out with intense sorrow – all of which fulfilled the words of the prophets, foretelling the crucifixion of Christ. Ultimately, the suffering of these ancient people came to a close. They heard the voice of Christ speak to them. The voice of God the Father was heard introducing Jesus as His Beloved Son. The people saw the resurrected Savior come down to earth and minister to them.

Jesus Christ teaches people of the Americas and calls the prophet Nephi and other disciples by name, giving them power to baptize those who repent and believe in Him. One by one, these disciples come forward and Jesus demonstrates in front of the people how those who believe in Him are to be immersed in the water and baptized. Jesus also recites the baptismal prayer to be offered at baptism. Jesus declares His doctrine and calls a child to stand before them. He teaches the multitude that they must repent, believe in Him, become as a little child and be baptized in His name.

Jesus Christ continues His teachings during His visitation to people of Ancient America. Jesus’ words reflect the Sermon on the Mount and the Beatitudes as found in the Gospel of Matthew 5 – 7. The twelve disciples called by Jesus to minister are seated before the people as the Lord teaches His gospel. Jesus is shown walking among the multitude, emphasizing His doctrine.

Jesus tells the people of Ancient America that they are the “other sheep” of His fold, as recorded in the Bible and spoken of by the Lord to those in Jerusalem. Jesus explains that His gospel fulfills the law of the prophets, and the law of Moses has an end in Him. Jesus declares that He is the law and the life, and those who believe in Him and endure in His gospel, will gain eternal life. Jesus also speaks of the gospel restored in the latter-days and His covenant and promise to gather the scattered House of Israel.

Jesus ministers to people of Ancient America and perceives their weakness. Full of compassion for them, He heals their sick, calls little children forward and prays. Angels descend from heaven and minister unto them. These next passages of scripture attempt to describe an event too marvelous and joyous to accurately explain or comprehend.

Jesus establishes His sacrament among people of Ancient America. The Lord blesses bread and wine and administers the sacrament in remembrance of His body and His blood, which was shed for all people. The prayer, spoken by Christ, is the essential sacrament prayer offered by priesthood holders and administered on the Sabbath day in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The preparation of the sacrament portrayed here is similar in form to the sacrament as it is prepared and blessed before Latter-day Saint congregations around the world.

The prophet Nephi and the disciples of Christ go out to gather the people of Ancient America, declaring that Jesus has appeared unto them. Baptisms are performed and Jesus returns to show Himself again. Children and adults speak of miracles and healing they witnessed and received at the hands of Christ. The people who hear their personal testimonies of Jesus believe their words and gather to the place of Christ’s previous appearance. Their numbers are so great, the disciples organize the people into groups in order to more effectively teach and minister unto them. Those who believe in Christ and repent are baptized. Angels descend from heaven and Jesus appears to the Prophet Nephi and the people again to minister among them and pray to the Father.

Jesus blesses and administers His sacrament to the people of Ancient America. The Lord teaches them they are a remnant of the House of Israel and will be gathered according to the covenant of the Father. Jesus says He will establish the people in the land of the Americas and they will be brought to the knowledge of their Redeemer. He calls them the children of the prophets, the children of the covenant and the seed of Abraham. 3 Nephi 20: 1 – 25

Jesus answers the prayer of the prophet Nephi and appears to him and the other disciples of Ancient America. The Lord tells Nephi that His Church will be known by His name, just as His followers are known by His name. Jesus teaches the disciples more of His gospel of faith, repentance and baptism. He teaches that no unclean thing can enter into God’s presence, except those who are cleansed through the atoning blood of Christ. 3 Nephi 27: 1 – 25
