22:55-04:30. Callaghan or Thatcher? The polling booths have closed. The count is under way. The candidates prepare themselves for victory, or defeat. In the Results Studio, David Dimbleby and Robin Day welcome you to a night of political drama as your votes add up to the kind of government you have chosen for the eighties. The questions of the night: - Is it to be Margaret Thatcher, Prime Minister? - Will James Callaghan be returned in triumph to No 10? - Was Edge Hill the start of a Liberal revival for David Steel ? - What of the Nationalists, how big is their following now? - And, of course, who is to be your MP at Westminster? Bringing you the answers, Robert McKenzie and David Butler with Election Summaries every hour on the hour from Angela Rippon.

07:00-09:00. Is Britain about to elect its first female Prime Minister? Is Mr Callaghan going to make it back, against the odds? Is it going to be another hung parliament? Election Breakfast with David Dimbleby and Sue Lawley In this Nationwide Breakfast Special we shall be hearing from our reporters on location with the party leaders...seeking the waking thoughts of yesterday's voters as they set off for work...looking back at some of the highlights of the night. In the Election studio, Richard Stilgoe and Glyn Worsnip add a dash of humour and a song to suit the occasion.

09:00-10:00. David Dimbleby is joined by Robin Day, Robert McKenzie, David Butler for a question-and-answer session in which you put the questions to the election experts.

10:00-12:00. David Dimbleby, Robin Day, Angela Rippon and the Election team assess the state of the parties and prepare for the 150-or-so results still to come, including all the results from Northern Ireland. As we wait for those declarations we shall be bringing you details of the largest Election survey ever carried out in Britain, a survey which will tell us the secrets of why Britain voted the way it did. The BBC/Essex University Survey, conducted by Gallup and analysed by Ivor Crewe and Robert McKenzie Colin Chapman will be at the Stock Exchange to sample reaction in the City and BBC outside broadcast units will be spread around the United Kingdom from Downing Street to South Down, the seat of Mr Enoch Powell.

12:00-15:53. Election summary with Angela Rippon including news from home and abroad The Battle for No 10 David Dimbleby and Robin Day with Robert McKenzie and David Butler take the political temperature as the last 100 results begin to come in and Election 79 reaches its climax. Amongst ROBIN DAY'S guests this afternoon, Roy Hattersley Norman St John Stevas Cyril Smith , Merlyn Rees and Sir Keith Joseph Outside broadcast units in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland will be at the late declarations which may be crucial to the balance of power ... and with the party leaders, wherever they may be.
