During a stopover in Cologne, they experience a turbulent night during Carnival. In the morning, thanks to Gereon’s father’s intervention, the two fly to Paris as part of Adenauer’s entourage. At the airport, the German ambassador is waiting with an arrest warrant, and in the exiles’ café, a familiar melody plays.

At Lieberberg Castle, Nyssen eagerly anticipates his meeting with Hitler. Gereon is released by Wendt, but must continue to fear for his life. Right before his eyes, the prisoners begin to be transported from the SA prison to the camp. Among them are Heymann and Katelbach, who are preparing to escape. Their plan fails.
