Most believed it was sorcery, but Sequoyah created a system of writing the Cherokee language. Soon, more Cherokees could read and write than the white settlers. The Chisholm Trail is the most famous of many trails that brought hundreds of thousands of cattle from Texas through Oklahoma to the railheads in Kansas.
