January 1930, a cold winter evening. Willie is laboring over a stack of unpaid bills, while Aunt Vie is engrossed in the newspaper of the Funeral Directors' Association. A question about an article that could enhance their knowledge of the trade gives her an idea. Who is better placed than Aunt Vie to write a book about the funeral industry? Aunt Vie has set her sights on becoming the first female chairperson of the local branch of the Belgian Funeral Directors' Association. Willie feels he has a good reason to go out and get drunk with Raymonke. Things get out of hand, and Vie and Willie end up in court, accused of stealing a body from the cemetery. It's summer and work is scarce. Laziness and boredom take over. A death at the seaside provides the perfect opportunity for a relaxing trip. Soon, Tante Vie and Willie are sunbathing on the beach. Since Willie can't swim but still wants to go in the sea, he comes up with the idea of taking the empty coffin out of the hearse and using it as a boat.
