24/7 Flyers/Rangers: Road to the NHL Winter Classic

Part 1 of HBO's exclusive look into the preparations by the New York Rangers and Philadelphia Flyers for the 2012 Winter Classic.

The Flyers' winning streak continues as they head into a big game against the Stanley Cup-champion Bruins. However, there is bad news on the injury front. The Rangers hit a rough patch on the road.

The Flyers and Rangers square off at Madison Square Garden prior to their showdown in the Winter Classic. The transformation of Citizens Bank Park, site of the outdoors game, continues.

Despite allowing the Flyers to score the first two goals of the game, the Rangers rallied by scoring the final three, including two by Mike Rupp, to take the 2012 Winter Classic at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia by the score 3-2. Brad Richards scored the game-winner at the 5:21 mark in the third, but the rest of the game wasn't without drama as the Flyers had a chance to tie in the final minute with a penalty shot, which was awarded when Ryan McDonagh covered the puck in the crease. Flyers center Danny Briere took the shot and tried to go between Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist's legs, but he was denied. With just 19.6 seconds left on the clock, the Rangers survived Philly's final flurry to win the game.

After beating the Flyers at Madison Square Garden, the Rangers hit the road. Before trying to continue their dominance of the orange and black when they face off outside on january 2nd. Meanwhile the Flyers take on their cross state rivals, the Pittsburgh Penguins, once more prior to heading home to hit the ice agains the Rangers in the Winter Classic.
