After the inauguration party of Alex’s new law firm, Wilsberg witnesses Alex ’former fellow student Maike Lehmann drunk in an accident. Wilsberg helps her out of trouble and explains to the approaching police that he was behind the wheel and avoided a cyclist. Later in Maike's apartment, Maike wants to thank her rescuer, but Wilsberg rejects her advances. And the next day she suddenly finds herself accused of rape.

Alex has just started a new law firm, and her first case is a murder case. A wealthy client's wife was strangled with a rope. Thomas Winter himself was struck down by the perpetrator. In any case, he claims. Anna Springer doesn't believe him a word. There is no trace of a third person anywhere. Winter has also left fingerprints everywhere, even on the body. Winter is stunned by this accusation. Alex does her best to assist him as a lawyer. But Anna wants to arrest him. Only at the last second does Alex manage to prevent this: by following her instinct, helping Winter to escape.

Commissioner Anna Springer is in trouble. Not only is a new employee, Carola Sonntag, put to her side - a young policewoman also dies in a mysterious car accident. And just before she wanted to meet Anna. Apparently she wanted to inform her about irregularities in her police department. However, Anna does not believe the accident theory for a second and asks Georg Wilsberg, of all people, for help, who otherwise makes her life difficult with his idiosyncratic methods. Because of her suspicion that the new colleague Carola is interfering with the investigation, Anna believes the perpetrator may have come from police circles. Wilsberg is not very enthusiastic, but for Anna's sake he does her the favor.

It's going high, you could almost think it was carnival. Meanwhile, Alex gets the Christmas present for Commissioner Springer. Georg Wilsberg receives an order from Torsten Schmitt to shade his wife Elvira because of an alleged affair. And in fact Wilsberg watches Elvira as she enters a hotel with a man. A normal job if it weren't for a killer checking in at this very hotel in Münster under the wrong name to murder Elvira. In a fake handover, he shoots Elvira, but his second victim, Elvira's partner, can escape. In front of the hotel, Commissioner Overbeck runs over the killer during a business trip and comes to the hospital seriously injured.
