This was the first heavy face-to-face battle fought with the North Vietnamese and the first battle that cost heavy casualties of American lives. Led by Colonel Hal Moore of the famed 7th Cavalry, the First Air Cavalry division was the most lethal assault force ever assembled in Vietnam.
