In this video I explore some crazy ways to cook an egg, and kind of go into the science behind it. Plus, its a great excuse to break out the flamethrower! Making a squirt gun flamethrower is very dangerous.
I get a lot of emails asking advice on building a flamethrower: I can't stop you from doing it, so I will give you real advice below......
If you play with fire you will get burned, and expect/plan for the worst to happen - The gun catches fire and sprays you with flaming liquid. Squirt gu

In this video I make and demonstrate how I made a green flamethrower from a squirt gun, antifreeze (methanol), and Roach killer (Boric Acid). I hacked this squirt gun flamethrower together for only $10!
The ratio of methanol/boric acid :12oz of methanol 1 teaspoon of boric acid.

In this video I show how easy it is to make a vortex shooter out of an old paint bucket. All you need to make the vortex ring cannon is an old paint bucket, something to cut it with, and a garbage bag!
Add a little butane and you can shoot fire vortex from across the room! Add some smoke and you can be shooting smoke rings!

Hey guys, Backyard Scientist here. I this video I throw water bottles filled with dry ice, and liquid nitrogen into my pool. This is seriously cool. The resulting explosions are earth-shaking powerful.
I was curious to see what would happen to a human if they were underwater when this happened, so I fixed a couple balloons to a weight underwater. The explosion compresses the gas inside the

Move over AntHillArt, theres a new guy in town! So today I decided I was going to pour molten aluminum on something. I just finished a new propane powered furnace and I wanted to put it to the test!
I don't know why my brain jumped to watermelon, but I'm glad it did. What was going to be a way to waste the afternoon turned into an amazing discovery!

Pewter is mostly tin, with a little bit of antimony and copper. Its use dates all the way back to the ancient Egyptians, but you don't need to rob graves for it. Its a common item to find in thrift shops! Cups, pitchers, bowls, plates, and candle-sticks can all be made out of pewter. Buying it at a thrift store

Ive been pouring 7 different metals into a 24" tall aquarium over the weekend, and the results have been super cool! I poured metals with different melting points to see if they had any different effects when they came in contact with water. From Pewter (350f/170c) all the way to Thermite (4000f/2204c). Some of them exploded, some of them sank and made molten metal drippy-castles, but they were all interesting. Here is a list of metals I used, and their melting points:

Im going to show you how to make rockets using CO2 cartridges. These are used for Airsoft, Paintball, and BB guns. They contain high pressure Carbon Dioxide gas behind a thin metal disc. If you puncture the disc, the gas will escape and propel the rocket fast! Its not a replacement for black powder engines, but they can be just as fun, just watch where they land!

I also thew spears at the balloons and hit them with steel wool.

Also people were debating on how fast the ball was really spinning, and I had to find out for myself so I grabbed my camera that can shoot up to 1000fps. The original poster estimated the speed at 10,000 rpm, but the ball was really spinning 30,000 rpm in my experiments!
What happens when you fill a ping pong ball with extremely flammable propane, then light it on fire? Does it spin really fast, or make a cool noise, or explode? The answer is yes!

I used a hose with a 20ga needle on the end to pump propane directly into the ping pong ball. I put a torch on my wooden bench and threw gas fille

Sparklers last way longer than steel wool, and im sure everybody on the beach was impressed as It flew down the shore.

The inside of a pumpkin has a pretty interesting geometry. I had the idea to cast the inside to see what it looks like, but the inside of the pumpkin is very fragile and the 1000 degree aluminum pretty much destroys it as soon as it comes in contact with the soft flesh.
I thought freezing the pumpkin would provide more structural support, so I froze the pumpkin from the inside out with liquid nitrogen. My thermometer can only measure to -36f (-38c), and the pumpkin was colder than that. Liquid
