This mall, which was built in 1989 and opened in 1990 survived a harsh 32 years plagued by over malling, vacancy issues, its major anchor declaring bankruptcy and an economic recession among other things. During the 1960s, 70s, 80s and 90s, Canada had a discount department store unlike any other. It was a place where you could get quality goods cheap. It was a place where newcomers, those on a fixed budget and bargain hunters could get great deals. It became a great success and by the 1990s was ruined by mismanagement.
