Omnibus presents John Berger's moving and beautiful stories about peasant life.
Photographs by Jean Mohr.
For the past five years John Berger, one of our most acclaimed and original writers, has been living and working among peasants in the French Alps. His new book. Pig Earth, grew out of this experience. For years, too, the distinguished Swiss photographer Jean Mohr has been photographing peasants all over the world.
This is Berger's first television appearance since his award-winning series Ways of Seeing. In part one, he tells his own stories about his neighbours, the village peasants. In part two, he talks with Teodor Shanin, a world authority on peasant societies, about their political and historical significance in the modern world.
