After spending A LOT of time figuring out the plans and the math for this new Scrappy Build, I'm ready to show you my ideas and get started! My twin brother Mark is starting a Cub build of his own, so I brought him along to talk about his new project and compare the differences from it and Scrappy. Mike Patey describes how he adds Kevlar to his bush plane Scrappy. Mike uses not only carbon fiber on the fuselage and tail, but he is now adding Kevlar to the horizontal stabilizer to increase strength and prevent rocks from damaging the design.

You probably didn't already know, but I LOVE carbon fiber. I have a small step on Scrappy that I would like to take care of. Watch along as I manufacture a custom carbon fiber part for my monster bush plane Scrappy.

Sanding, sanding, sanding, and MORE sanding! I finally begin the process of building a cowling for my experimental airplane Scrappy using carbon fiber, wood jigs, foam, metal rulers, and anything else laying around the shop.

The time has come, I'm splitting my carbon fiber cowling! I'm also working to adding in lights, a night vision camera, and a NACA duct for airflow. The cowling has been one of the most labor intensive projects of Scrappy, but we are making progress!

I put my wing spar design to the test. After designing and extruding my own custom aluminum, I finally get to test it...to the breaking point. Watch as I put all the engineering to the test!

With only one foam block to create a mold for my wing, I really need the CNC mill to work as planned. Also I show how I pull several Carbon Fiber parts off of one mold quickly.

We roll Scrappy outside and run it around the airport. The cowling is FINISHED! Now...on to the WINGS!! I'm more than happy about the way this cowling turned out...it is beautiful!! I'm also in need of some design help. If you are creative and design a t-shirt that we like and use, I'll give you $100 cash! Then we'll put those shirts up for sale and the shirt that sells the most I'll give cash! $1,000 for first, $500 for second, and $250 for third!

Is it the cart or the horse that comes first? Either way, while we wait on some wings for Scrappy, let's build some custom carbon fiber wing slats from some molds that I made.

I finally get to share a secret that I've held for the ENTIRE Scrappy build! Scrappy has dynamic suspension that allows me to change the setup for differing terrain, takeoffs, windy conditions, and more! Now you know all the secrets...well, so far. Thank you to KING Shocks for working with me to create a custom suspension system, you guys are the best!

Four different topics today, a Cirrus airplane pulled its parachute, I fly my wife in the helicopter, I make some custom parts for Scrappy's wing, and we conduct some engine thermal testing.

Today I finish painting my leading edge slats, test my fuel tank inspection doors, and start on the first bottom sheet of my wing.

In order to hang things like electric mountain bikes, one wheels, guns, fuel, and anything else...I've got to reinforce the ribs and entire bracket system for Scrappy's new wing. Follow along as I share how I'm doing it!

My final surprise for Scrappy's wings, Im installing a large solar system to produce enough power to not only serve as a backup for scrappy, but to power anything I want all night long when camping or during rescue missions.

I put some of the final parts of the cowling together and get it ready for paint, we are so close!! It is amazing to see such a big race engine hidden by this cowling...we're really creating a sleeper...but who WON'T recognize Scrappy!?
