Nearly 20 years ago, “Bones” premiered on Fox. Now it’s time to go back and dig deeper! (Unlike the forensic excavation on the show, we don’t mean this literally.) Stars Emily Deschanel and Carla Gallo are taking you on a behind-the-scenes tour of the murders, the characters, the sometimes-grisly bodies, and everything else you never knew about the show. Welcome back to the Jeffersonian! We'll be recapping each episode of Bones in order, so please join us today for a behind-the-scenes trip back to 2005 and the pilot of Bones. In this episode, Emily spills all the details of the Bones audition process and reveals how she landed the role of Dr. Temperance Brennan. Carla takes us on a highlight reel of the pilot’s sexiest moments (from Angela’s boobs to Brennan’s boobs and everything in between). Emily has plenty of cold goss, including why she was in tears while filming, and how Aaron Paul’s guest appearance as a morose comic store owner/artist with swoopy bangs might have launched his career. Plus, Carla recounts working with Aaron years later on a huge blockbuster. Later on, this episode’s writer, Elizabeth Benjamin, calls in from her writers room during lunch break to give her insights on how they created such a fully realized world for the comics-obsessed teens at the center of the story.

It’s a gritty case this week full of gangs, gardens and guns galore. Not without its cringe moments, at the core of this week’s episode is a still-relevant exploration of the tough choices immigrant families are forced to make. After checking in with each other about the L.A. wildfires, Emily and Carla dig in on this horticultural episode, unearthing plenty of cold goss (bad wigs, vegan pupusas), and Emily learns just how young Carla was when she began her professional acting career. Excitement and pirate accents infect the whole team, spreading like the syphilis the deceased had a bad case of. Before you can say “shiver me timbers” Hodgins uncovers the rest of the skeleton, a mayor shows up dressed as a pirate, and a millionaire finds his way to the Jeffersonian. At the time, this episode was not a cast favorite, but who doesn't love a little pirate pun, here and tharrrrrr? Plus there’s some COLD GOSS on attempted matchmaking behind the scenes and all the real life diving that went into this episode. Arrrrrr.

Deputy Director Sam Cullen's young daughter, Amy, has mysteriously developed lung cancer after receiving a bone graft from a 60-year-old, instead of a much younger and healthier donor. Booth and Brennan chase down the reason and discover that Amy is not the only victim. Meanwhile, Angela grows closer to Amy, who wants to fall in love before she dies. Although Carla and Emily love the sweet moments, they wonder if things get a little too on the nose in other places. Also, they talk about Emily and David’s fun chemistry during their press tour.

Booth backstory? Yes please! This episode gets into Booth’s past as a sniper, explored through the mystery of a burnt corpse on the grave.
