The young Takaya tests his car during the first race he takes part in, but just a step away from victory an oil stain prevents him from winning. His car, just built, ends up destroyed and he himself suffers a trauma that takes him away from engines. A mysterious character suggests that he start over.

Taken to the residence of the Katori's young daughter, Takaya struggles to question himself and is pushed to resume his journey by the young Niki Lanz. The boy, hesitant and surly, discovers that his car has been rebuilt right on the industrialist's estate.

The discovery of the new prototype of the Katori pushes Takaya to resume the race. The young Suzuko, car attendant, intimately infatuated with him, pushes him to try it, but the damage caused to the car forces the young man to accept participation in the rally, in order to be forgiven for the unauthorized attempt.

The controlled skid, the most complex maneuver for a rally pilot, is the challenge for Takaya, who has to really commit to winning the race that has now decided to win. Thanks to the help of his friends and the mysterious motorcyclist, the boy tries.

The first part of the race ends with a significant delay of the new Katori, due to the unfair maneuvers of the rival colleagues, who tamper with the car and force it to slow down and have unexpected accidents. The rally is lost, however, due to the poor road holding of the prototype. Takaya, in regret, returns to Tokyo to his uncle.

Despite returning to Tokyo, Takaya returns to the auto show at the invitation of his great patron Niki Lanz. There he meets the president of Katori motors, who offers him to work for the company as a test driver to repay the 10 million damage caused to the prototype of the house. Takaya, initially reluctant, accepts after discovering the identity of the masked man.

At the Katori research center, Takaya is left completely isolated and realizes that he can only rely on his own strength to do his job. Through observation and tenacity, he finds a way to solve the problem of the cars' road holding, arriving at building a model with six wheels.

Under the watchful eye of the President of Katori Motors, Takaya tests his new car and convinces him to include him in the list of drivers for the Monte Carlo Rally, where the car manufacturer will participate for the first time.

On the Monte Carlo circuit, Takaya gives a great demonstration of his ability, surprising even those who had doubted him among the team members. The mountain circuits are not a problem for his driving, but the difficult part comes in the last stage.

The ice of the Alps is a challenge for any driver. However, Takaya manages to master the ice also thanks to the tires already mounted. The problem that thwarts Katori's race is the rivalry with the other driver, which sees both losers.

The Spanish Grand Prix is ​​approaching, and Katori has chosen Takaya as its driver. But the new model of the House must be perfected and the only one capable of improving it is him, since Oynata and Niki leave the team to move to Lotus and Ferrari. But Takaya does not give up and asks for advice from the man he considers to be his father.

To participate in the Spanish Grand Prix, Takaya faces a difficult circuit like Jarama, whose curves put him in difficulty. Moreover, in his mind the beautiful Isabella, met on the trip, engages him in the challenge against his fierce rivals.

Takaya's intentions are excellent, but an unexpected event ruins Katori Motors' plans: the car was stolen out of spite by the brother of the bullfighter killed in Spain and now Takaya must recover it in order to participate in the Grand Prix.

Recovering from the bullfighting accident, Takaya is hosted by Isabella's father who has now decided to marry him to make him the heir to his fortune. Takaya, disappointed by his lack of triumphs, decides to leave the races and agrees to go to Spain. Here, however, the mysterious motorcyclist who has always followed him, entrusts him with a car that he will have to drive on the Le Mans circuit. Takaya cannot refuse.

Training for the 24 Hours of Le Mans is very tough and Takaya has promised not to see Isabella until the end of the race. But Jida, still vengeful for the death of his brother has decided to create a dangerous obstacle for the pilot and Isabella is determined to sacrifice herself to save him.

Isabella's conditions are desperate. To save her, two transfusion is needed and the father are offered and Takaya himself. But the girl wants the pilot to run equally to win, without giving up her dreams. Jida, knowing about the girl's condition, despair for the gesture made and decides to run into the same trap conceived against the rival. Takaya wins his race, but loses Isabella.

The Japanese team moves to France, where they prepare to face the difficult challenge of the grand prix. Takaya has also found a way to solve another problem with his car: by observing a plane taking off. His victory is all for the missing Isabella.

Takaya's talent is enhanced by the characteristics of his car, whose spoilers allow him to speed like never before. With his competitors out of the race due to accidents, Takaya also has to deal with his own accidentally blocked spoilers, and settle for third place.

A trivial accident in the country estate makes Takaya weak at the Silverstone race. Feverish for a foot infection, the pilot asks for silence in Suzuko to avoid skipping the race. The girl, in love with the pilot, accepts the request and fortunately the race ends without consequences.

Once in Monza, Takaya has to prepare the Grand Prix but the difficulties with the public and the language make everything more complicated. The car must be retouched for the circuit before the times are too tight and so it has to deal with the difficulties of a foreign country.

The public's intemperance against the Japanese manufacturer continues to the point of forcing Takaya to retire. But, surprisingly, Lanz and the Italian champion Prandelli also retire from the race in a sign of solidarity.

In Japan Takaya can count on the support and backing of the public, but his greatest ally is his car, the Todoroki Special. During the tests the technicians realize that the only way to not lose speed on the curve, with the great grip of the tires is to cut the curve, but with the risk of going off the road. Takaya's skill must make the difference. However, the unexpected explosion of a wheel catapults him off the road.

The technical director, who is also his father, has a computerized control mechanism inserted into the car to give it greater stability. In fact, during the race, a car accident sends even Niki Lanz off the road and opens the way to success for him. His friend and rival Oyanata is the victim of a terrible accident.

After the victory at the Grand Prix, Takaya goes on to find the uncles, who react very detachate in his happiness. In reality they know the truth about the father's past: he really running in motion invested his wife and did not pretend to her in order to participate in the race. This gesture cost the life of the woman. Now Takaya also knows the truth, but must leave for Africa and participate in the Rally-Safari of 5000 km.

Takaya's father is studying the best way to equip the car to face the inconvenience of the African territory, but Takaya refuses to have it as a second pilot. The past that revealed to him convinced him not to accept his person, and not to forgive him the death of his mother.

The choice not to have him as a running companion convinces Takaya's father to realize that desire that had kept him away from home for 15 years. His wife wanted to go to Kilimanjaro and the race that her husband had to win would have served to realize that dream. Now that Takaya is an adult, his father reveals the truth to him by letter, but in the meantime the man is left, lifeless on the snows of the mountain.

After the race in Africa, Takaya disappears from the automotive world making her traces lose. The Japanese house must then rely on the pilot Hans Rosel, identified by Niki Lanz, but the hopes of victory are reduced to a minimum with the entry of the US and USSR powers in the race.

While the president of Katori Motors has decided to find Takaya to compete with the big automotive powers, Takaya risks being killed by a hitman hired by Jida's mother, enraged by the death of her children.

An unknown mountain biker comes to Takaya's rescue for commercial reasons: a major car manufacturer has decided to propose the pilot to compete for its cause and bring the sales of its cars to the highest levels. Suzuko also finds her pilot and tries to persuade him to return to racing.

The South African Grand Prix is ​​difficult and tiring, but Takaya is counting on being able to bring a victory for the car manufacturer he belongs to. Attempts to persuade him to change teams have been in vain and, on top of that, there are also attempts to boycott his vehicle. The driver is forced to retire.

During the Long Beach Grand Prix in North America, Takaya's blackmailers have decided to kidnap Angoro and release him only on the condition that the driver races for them. Luckily, Pat, who he met in Canada, is arriving right at the circuit and manages to free the boy.

Takaya, traveling to North America, stops at the St. Sam service area, where the race of the same name is held between non-series cars. The boy Takaya meets gets injured just on the eve of the race and so asks the courtesy of being replaced.

The USA has asked for and obtained the establishment of a Formula 0, even more ferocious than F1, in which only cars with super engines can participate: this means eliminating from the scene all those economically poorer countries that cannot invest capital in the new competition. While deciding whether to participate or not, Hans decides to leave the Japanese team, eager to challenge Takaya as an opponent.

The new car, designed and built with the help of Japanese banks, is called Samurai, designed by Takaya himself. The goal is to beat the American and Soviet competition to relaunch the car market. Hans has moved on to the company of the oilman Hassan, who wants to show everyone that even the East can compete with the Western powers.

The samurai's tuning is about to end and Takaya must prove that he is ready for the appointment with his rival Hans, who has betrayed his colors for money and revenge. However, the race takes place without the necessary loyalty of the competitors, who, to facilitate Hans' victory, hinder the Japanese driver's race.

The training that Takaya lacks to surpass the formula zero drivers is the anti-gravity one. A formula zero driver must face the same difficulties as an astronaut who pushes himself into space. To his aid comes Mr. Himura, a motorcyclist who saved him on the Canadian snows, a friend of his father.

The next circuit is Nurbrgring in Germany, land of the legend of Lorelei, a woman who attracted sailors with her singing, causing them to shipwreck. Now, however, the same kind of fate could befall the drivers engaged in the challenge on the tortuous route that awaits them. Pat, enterprising and determined to drive a professional car, will also compete with the British team and for this reason she spends the evening with Takaya.

At the dress rehearsal, Takaya wins first place, despite the difficult conditions in which she has to race, and despite the unfairness of the Middle Eastern team. For the first time in Formula Zero, a female driver competes: Pat Clark.

The race, which began under the spectre of legend, sees a worrying succession of accidents, which eliminate cars without being able to count them. Even Pat, due to the incorrect behavior of the unfair drivers, rivals of Takaya, is injured during the race.

Pat's injury forces Takaya to unexpectedly retire from the race. He, first and with a high probability of final victory, gives up fighting because of the guilt of having induced the girl to drive a formula zero. But Pat herself, recovered in the hospital, is convinced of her victory, and none of the drivers reveals the truth to her.

Takaya, at Pat's invitation, arrives in Russia, where he will participate in the world championship that he absolutely must win to make up for the mistake made in the last grand prix. With him also hopes Hans, now become his great friend, even if a great rival.

The final of the Moscow Grand Prix sees Takaya on the track against Hans, both determined to win. An accident, however, turns the race tragic. A tire hits Hans who is the victim of a fatal accident. Takaya comes in second after Russia.

The first Formula Zero Grand Prix of Japan takes place in Asama. A circuit unknown to Takaya, who, out of presumption, accepts Himura's challenge and loses due to inexperience of the course. A demonstration of his deep experience behind the wheel, but of human immaturity.

The lesson learned with the challenge of the previous day, yields a lesson to Takaya that his Suzuko manages to make him understand. So the pilot uses his same mistake in the race, to win the most fearsome opponent: Russia. Takaya shares the party with the woman who has always supported and loved him and convinces everyone of his undisputed qualities.
