Glorious Gardens

New six-part series in which Irish gardening expert Eugene Higgins embarks on a challenging project to transform tired and dull plots into glorious gardens. In each episode he visits one garden in need of love and attention and finds out how it is used. He comes up with an action plan for an amazing makeover, touring National Trust properties for inspiration and showing viewers every step of the change. Then Eugene hands the new garden back to its owners and returns six months later to see how they have got on. In this episode he works on a garden in Londonderry.

This week, Eugene helps Roberta Patty-Coffey, who is fighting a losing battle as she attempts to cultivate a garden right on the shore of the Irish Sea. Eugene takes on the elements as he tries to design a garden capable of withstanding gale force winds.

This week, Eugene responds to a plea to make over a bleak brick courtyard into an enticing space for the residents of Strangford Court Care Home in Downpatrick. But things do not go to plan.

In this episode, the East Belfast Mission challenges Eugene to turn a derelict building site into a haven of peace on the busy Newtownards Road. With not even a bucketful of soil or a blade of grass to start with, Eugene's enthusiasm is put to the test as he struggles to make something glorious out of something grim.

Today Eugene has to look at things from a completely different perspective when he transforms blind couple Jane and Chris Sloane's suburban wilderness into a sanctuary of calm where they can sit and smell the flowers.

Last in series. Gardening expert Eugene Higgins travels west of the Bann to the McCreedy Mill Centre in Aughnacloy, where his challenge is to transform a dull piece of land into a welcoming and useful public area. Unfortunately, the weather conspires against his team, and tears and tantrums abound.
