Valley of Flood and Fire

It’s the end of November in the Luangwa Valley, and the rains have just begun. It marks the end of one of the toughest dry season on record, and triggers a transition from parched wilderness to luscious wetland.

As the dry season takes hold in Zambia's Luangwa Valley, lagoons will start to dry-up and verdant grasslands will gradually turn to dust. Animals must make the most of the wet season’s legacy whilst they can.

South Luangwa National Park is one of Africa’s great wild places. Lying at the southern tip of Africa’s Great Rift Valley, its extraordinary mosaic of habitats supports a rich diversity of life. The fortune of every animal that lives here is inextricably linked to the two vastly different seasons they experience – the wet and the dry.
