Jack joins David Boag as he trains rescued kingfishers to catch minnows. He then witnesses how corn was threshed before the days of the combine harvester.

1981. In the heat of a summer's day Jack goes fishing for roach in a drought-stricken river. He then visits his local village fair where they celebrate the past.

1981. Jack visits A.E. Partridge & Sons, the last remaining fish hook maker in Redditch. Back home, he builds an earthworm farm to 'seed' his new patch of garden.

1981. Jack takes us to Cork in Ireland for the final of the annual sea angling competition. He then goes hunting rabbits with a coney dog he has bred.

1981. Jack looks for fallow and roe deer and other wildlife from a seat high in the trees. It's then on to a working dog show climaxing with a terrier race.
