What connects the shocking suicide of a young woman and the vicious murder of a government minister? Inspector Kurt Wallander's investigation uncovers wrongdoing and corruption that extends to the heart of the Swedish establishment.

A body is found at a cash point, the apparent victim of a heart attack. Two teenage girls are arrested for the brutal murder of a cab driver. The girls confess to the crime, showing no remorse. Two open and shut cases. At first these two incidents seem to have nothing in common, but as Wallander delves deeper into the mystery of why the girls murdered the cab driver, he begins to unravel a plot much more involved complicated than he initially suspected. The two cases become one, and lead to a conspiracy that stretches beyond the borders of Sweden.

Three youngsters are shot dead whilst having a woodland picnic in fancy dress. The corpses are found, and a friend of the victims is also slain, having told Wallander that his workmate was really gay, and that he is a transvestite, and a wholly murderous one, who adds to his toll of dead by killing a further trio of innocents.

Miss Bulstrode, the elderly headmistress of an English girls' school, is warned by a parent that she has recognized someone at the school from her days in the intelligence service. And then there is a murder, and Poirot is on hand to try to solve it. Poirot finds connections with a revolution in the Middle Eastern kingdom of Ramat and Prince Ali Yusuf's missing jewels.

James Bentley is arrested for the murder of old Mrs McGinty. It looks like an open and shut case, but Superintendent Spence is not convinced. He turns to Poirot for help, and together with Poirot's writer friend Ariadne Oliver they set out to find the real killer.

While traveling on a train to London, Miss Marple is told by a woman she has never met, Lavinia Pinkerton, that she is certain there have been two murders in her village of Wychwood. When Lavinia dies in what is purported to be an accident - she fell, or was pushed, down the escalator in a tube station - Miss Marple decides to visit Wychwood and see what she can find. As Miss Marple is apt to say, one English village is like another and Wychwood has its secrets like any other. The first woman to die was Florie Gibbs who, despite being experienced in such things, supposedly ate poison mushrooms she picked herself. The second was the local vicar who failed to wear his mask when using poison near his beehives. The third is a young woman who, it is said, accidentally drank hat dye instead of her cough medicine. Miss Marple finds a clue that points to a motive with origins many years before and a secret someone will do anything, including murder, to keep hidden.

Miss Marple is requested to help her old friend Carrie-Louise, the loving wife of benign philanthropist Lewis Serrocold. Carrie-Louise is slowly poisoned by an unknown hand,and her husband and her sister Ruth want absolutely to save her from this dark menace.

While visiting her friend Marjorie Attfield, Miss Marple learns that her son Bobby had recently found a body, identified as a Mr. Pritchard, on the cliff side. He's received a letter asking him to appear at the enquiry but it seems to be a wild goose chase meant to keep him away from the real enquiry taking place elsewhere. Now accompanied by a friend, Frankie Derwent, they trace the dead man to nearby Castle Savage, home to a dysfunctional family with great deal of money. The family patriarch, Jack Savage, had died not long ago and the dead man had some connection to the Savages. But what is the key to solving the mystery of Pritchard's last words to Bobby as he lay dying: "Why didn't they ask Evans?".

At first the murders of Reg Chapman, a handy man at the Bodleian Library and gambling addict, and Nell Buckley, a popular Art student, seem unrelated. However, it transpires that Chapmen stole parchment from the library upon which Nell and another student persuaded Philip, a brilliant, autistic young painter, to innocently forge letters by the poet Shelley for the international collectors' market. When both victims,for different reasons, threatened to expose the mastermind behind the scam, they were killed.

Ageing gay lecturer R.G. Cole is strangled after going to watch an illegal bare knuckle boxing match. He was also due to stage a Wagner festival sponsored by South African club owner Hansie Kriel, whose daughter Sarah was literally being fought over by two of the young boxers. One of them, student Milo Hardy, is also murdered following a trip to Berlin, where Hansie plans to open a new club and from where Cole's protege Richard Helm and his mother Valli escaped during the Cold War. Robbie believes that the victims were about to identify the Stasi informant responsible for Valli's liberal husband's death over twenty years before and sends Sergeant Hathaway to Germany to prove this

A serial killer is targeting a religious group, called The Garden, to which Hathaway has personal connections.

After a teen girl is assaulted, the case seems to be solved until the chief suspect is murdered. Lewis and Hathaway then find evidence that exposes Oxford's elite.

A Czech barmaid is found, beaten to death with an antique Persian mirror, paralleling an incident in a newly-published fantasy novel. When the life of another young woman is threatened, leading Lewis to suspect that the murdered girl was a victim of mistaken identity.

A preview performance of a student production of 'The Merchant of Venice' is cut short when the actor playing Shylock is stabbed to death with a prop knife. Lewis and Hathaway are working their way through a lengthy list of suspects when a second actor is killed.

Lewis and Hathaway investigate the murder of a man found beaten and drowned in his bath. The deceased is identified as a man who once attempted to murder a celebrated atheist, but investigations reveal that the deceased is another man entirely, the two having chosen to swap identities.
