ZDF is continuing the story of the Schöllack family in divided Berlin in three new episodes. The editors Zeitgeschichte also accompanies this trilogy with a documentation. Heike Nelsen-Minkenberg talks about life in the divided metropolis at the end of the 50s. The author has tracked down witnesses whose fates reflect what the daughters of the Schöllack family experience in the film. With the actress Hannelore Cremer we dive into the glamorous world of film and theater in the 50s. Thomas Frankenfeld, the son of Peter Frankenfeld, reviews the early days of television in Germany - and gives an insight into the private lives of his parents and other major TV stars. Klaus Köstel is a Peter Kraus fan of the first hour. He takes us on an autograph hunt in the music clubs of the time and describes how he clashed with the so-called "half-strong". Different youth groups are on the path of self-discovery, they set themselves apart from the generation of their parents, through their own music, their own idols, their own fashion. Political and social topics of the tripartite, such as the fight for equal rights, the rights of illegitimate children or single mothers, are introduced to us through prominent interlocutors such as the rally driver Heidi Hetzer and the former Bundestag President Rita Süssmuth. All of this was embedded in the historical context of the Berlin crisis, when Kremlin boss Khrushchev demanded that the western part of the city be removed from the Federal Republic, which fueled fears of a second Berlin blockade and possibly a nuclear escalation.
