Investigating Diana: Death in Paris

The French police search reaches its concluding stages, with the hunt for a white Fiat Uno that allegedly collided with Diana and Dodi Al-Fayed's Mercedes coming to nothing. Dodi's grieving father Mohamed Al-Fayed refuses to believe the crash was an accident and is convinced that his son and the princess have been murdered, and has no scruples about naming who he thinks is responsible. Was Princess Diana engaged to Dodi, and could this be a motive for murder? The French investigation concludes the crash was a simple accident. But that doesn't quiet speculation, particularly in Britain, where there are ever-increasing calls for an independent British inquiry.

How scepticism of the investigation into Princess Diana's death rose in 2004, leading to the British Government coming under pressure to conduct a public inquest into the crash. The Metropolitan Police is asked to investigate not the cause of the crash, but allegations of a conspiracy to murder by the establishment, including the royal family and MI6.

Operation Paget presents a final report at a public inquest, as conspiracy theories, aided and abetted by Mohamed Al-Fayed, spread that the crash was an assassination by the British secret services. The Paget detectives gain unfettered access to MI6, and investigate whether there is anything suspicious around the death of a tabloid photographer.
