In the Footsteps of Elizabeth David

TV documentary tracing the life of food writer Elizabeth David. 1 of 2: Chris Patten follows Elizabeth's early days, from her conservative upbringing in rural England; her leaving of home for London in 1939, at the age of sixteen, where she became an actress; her travels around the Mediterranean with her actor lover; to her loveless marriage to a British colonel in wartime Cairo and India.

Second of a two-part documentary about the life of food writer Elizabeth David. 2 of 2: Chris Patten travels to Venice, Tuscany and the island of Capri where David spent eight months in 1952 researching a book on Italian food. Patten then travels to France, the food of this country being the focus of David's second book. Her personal life, however, was in turmoil. Her marriage had failed and an illness had resulted in her losing her sense of taste.
