The Phoenix

Phoenix 2772 starts with twelve minutes without dialogue, much like a silent film, recalling the birth and education of Godo. In this brave new world, children are born in test tubes and are raised by computers and robots. Godo learns the skills that will make him into a great pilot, assisted by the robotic wonder Olga. Everything that Godo needs is provided for him until he eventually goes for training with his automaton companion. He soon realizes that the world is not what he expected...

This is an animation version of the most popular masterpieces of the Phoenix series. The characters are pictured quite differently from the way they are in the original Manga, and several arguments occurred over the production of this animated cartoon itself. However, the high quality direction by Rintaro added stability to the work. The story is about two characters, Akanemaru, a sculpture genius, and ex-burglar Gao whose only purpose in life is sculpting, and how they struggle with the fate to compete with each other over their capacity and talent.

This is the second part of "The Phoenix" series of the Kadokawa Haruki Office Co., Ltd. version, a refined animated film based on Tezuka Osamu's original work portraying life based on the myth of Yamatotakeru. The characters are again designed differently from those in the Manga --- they are actually more mature, which had the effect of disappointing some fans of the original drawings.
