Set on the Nebraska prairie from 1880 to 1910, this paean to the settlers of America's heartland chronicles the hardships and joys of European immigrants striving to build a new life in the harsh but fertile New World. Alexandra Bergson, headstrong daughter of Swedish émigrése, provides the willpower that transforms her barren homestead into a prosperous farm.
