Great Thinkers: In Their Own Words

The series looks at how mass media gave eminent thinkers the chance to express their ideas to a wider audience, and features archive footage of Sigmund Freud, Benjamin Spock, David Attenborough, Margaret Mead, Carl Jung, Richard Dawkins, Armand Leroi, Oliver James and BF Skinner.

With the use of archive footage Isaiah Berlin talks about the horrors of the 1917 Russian Revolution. Bertrand Russell shows his anger about the nuclear arms race.

The series looks at the battle to give culture to the people led by Raymond Williams and Richard Hoggart and also the advent of popular culture, spearheaded by American academic Susan Sontag.
