Escaping Alaska

In the premiere of this reality series, five native Alaskan youth mull leaving their villages to start new lives in San Diego, but they risk being disowned by their families and friends for betraying their heritage and trust.

The group arrive in San Diego, where rifts in the group are revealed on a trip to the grocery store, and a Mardi Gras celebration presents an incredible culture shock.

Troubling news from home causes a few members to second-guess leaving their families. Meanwhile, the group get makeovers to shed their traditional Alaskan styles; and a rift between Qituvituag and Nuala gets wider.

A member's disappearance brings the others together. Meanwhile, Nuala makes new friends and thinks about her future; a visit to a reservation makes everyone homesick; and Qituvituag gets creative to solve a cash-flow problem.

Tamara goes to Hollywood to follow her dreams. Meanwhile, a dispute erupts between two members, forcing the others to play peacemakers.
