Spring 1945. Peace has finally returned to Europe. It is full of optimism that Klara, the daughter of an industrialist, and her husband, Johann, want to build a common future. Egon, Johann's brother, dreams of a new start in civilian life after having worked on the border for several years. The signs point to a new beginning, but peace poses new challenges both politically and economically.
