Just about taking their school final exam, 18-old non-binary Rafa have an existential crisis, and without telling anyone, leave Botucatu and set off to São Paulo, the state capital. Arriving there, Rafa ask their gay cousin Vini, who shares an apartment with a female friend, Maia, also 25, to put them up. Vini is a member of a theater company where he works in the administration. At work at TaxiExpress, Maia receives a complaint from a female passenger that she has been harassed, but her boss frustrates her by putting it on the back burner. Rafa are a good artist and plans to learn to be a tattooist. With that in mind, Rafa visit the studio of X and Juno, both tattooists who conform to non-binary gender. Rafa take Vini and Maia to a conference and they experience first-hand the world of non-binary gender, which at last becomes clearer to them. When they get home, their family is waiting for them. All three realize this will not be an easy task.

Rafa manage to remain in São Paulo. They continue to dress as a non-binary person and cuts their hair. However, they becomes a victim of transphobia. There is a post on the internet that accuses the company where Maia works of harassing women, which goes viral. It is the same as the one that was made to her. Their bosses still do not appear to take the accusation seriously, so she decides to act on her own, asking help from her work colleague Antonio. They really do get on very well! Vini goes to rehearsals at the theater. The workshops and the concentration practices become more intense and for him, more embarrassing. His boyfriend, Julio, is also an actor, but is more open and libertarian. This causes conflicts and they have a couple’s moment. At home, Bini, Maia and Rafa have a chat. Vini tells them about his relationship drama. Maia is upset with her company. While Rafa, on their way to the baker’s, receive insulting comments.

Rafa begin to practice as a tattooist and begin to realize they come from a privileged background. A new actor joins the theater company and shows clear signs of interest in Vini, who, in turn seems uncomfortable with his boyfriend’s suggestion. Maia discovers the address of the taxi driver who harassed the girl, but does not know what to do with the information. She tells Rafa, who say they will go to the man’s house. But Rafa’s naïve response exposes Maia to a clear racist attitude, although not aware of it. Maia decides to take Rafa to a party to give them a reality jolt.

Rafa meet up again with Juno and X, taking with their tattooed pork they have been practicing on. X say they have improved a lot and can train at the studio. They start flirting. This time, Juno make clear their opposition, but X tell them not to be silly, as it is just jealousy. Vini tells Lorena, the theater group director, he wants the lead role, but his performance during a rehearsal is a disaster. When he is leaving the rehearsal, Vini receives a nude selfie from Rael, the new actor in the group, and a message. Rafa begins a relationship with X and spends several days at their home. Maia’s boss confronts her with a photo of the taxi driver’s house with the graffiti-painted wall. Julio continues to avoid Vini. The latter finally plucks up the courage to reply to Rael’s message. Maia receives a message from Julia, asking for help.

Vini and Maia are worried about Rafa and demand to meet X. Rafa invite X to dinner and introduce them to the apartment mates. When X say they intend to spend the night there, Rafa react badly and say they need space. They quarrel. Vini tells Maia he thinks it is time to for him to dump Julio. Maia then says she would love Antonio to stop seeing his girlfriend and go out with her. Rafa cannot cope with their own behavior and asks their friends if they is a sexist. Rael is chosen for the leading role and Vini gives up the play. Maia opens her dating app for the perfect match: she seems to have found her perfect match

Maia arrives at work excited to meet Antonio. But her happiness is short-lived, as her boss William tells her to spend the day checking data. This is his way of punishing her for having questioned the company in the harassment case. She quits her job. Rafa go to the tattooing studio and show the tattoo they have done on themself. Rafa and X make up. Surprisingly, Juno suggest they find Rafa a first client. Julio splits up with Vini, who also leaves the theater office, which leaves Lorena in despair. He wants his life to change. However, Maia and Vini quickly realize this cannot go on for long and they need money to pay the bills. However, the stars are in their favor.

Rafa finally do their first tattoo. Juno suggest a flash tattoo party to promote Rafa’s work. Maia arrives in a good mood at the interview with the company where she wants to work, but she is told there has been a mistake and the vacancy is filled. At the flash tattoo party all Rafa’s family come to support them. Ulisses does not feel comfortable in everyone’s company, and is not impressed by Rafa’s success. Vini asks his Uncle Ulisses to pay for his MBA course, but he has to accept a condition. Rafa and Vini go to an LGBT night out. Rafa dress as a man, or more accurately, a dyke. Vini risks a more gay appearance. Rafa chat up a number of girls and Vini several boys. On leaving the party, Rafa and Vini come across Maia and they walk through the city streets talking about everything. Suddenly, a group of men approach and start insulting Rafa.

After visiting Rafa in hospital, Ulisses says he is going to take them back to Botucatu, but forgets to ask whether that is what they want. When Rafa are discharged, they run away without telling their family, leaving everyone worried. They return to the transgender activists’ group at Casa Juntxs (Their House), now less middle-class and more mature. Vini says he has had sex with Marcelo, one of the guys at the party, without a condom, and Maia is worried. Marcelo writes to Vini saying they has also had the test, but unfortunately, it was positive. Maia visits Antonio at home and they finally get together. Rafa return home and find their family worried. They tell them why they want to stay in São Paulo. They can stand on their own two feet and they now want to be referred to as a non-binary person. From now on Rafa are “they”. Vini and Maia think up an idea to find out whether the company was racist or not.
