National Parks of the Future

Toronto’s Rouge National Urban Park is a haven of solitude within the suburban sprawl of Canada’s biggest city. With a mix of forests, wetlands and farmland, it is home to a remarkably diverse range of wildlife and is easily accessible for city-dwellers wanting to reconnect with nature.

Chile’s Ruta de los Parques is a chain of 17 national parks stretching across 2400km of Pristine wilderness. Instrumental in creating these reserves was American philanthropist Douglas Tompkins who bought large tracts of land that he then gifted to the Chilean nation on the condition that they remain protected.

The species-rich coral reefs of the Seychelles are threatened by overfishing, plastic waste and climate change. But the Seychelles government recently made one third of its waters a marine reserve and environmental groups are working hard to revive damaged reefs.
