A shepherd boy saves the Snake King's son from the death by fire and in his thankfulness the Snake King presents him. He has two choices: either he understands the speech of the animals or he gets a bag full of money. The boy is thinking it over. Both of the options would be good but he will not have the possibility to understand the speech of the animals another time. So he chooses this option. Shortly it turns out that he has chosen well because after eavesdropping on a conversation of two little birds he finds a big bowl full of money and he gets the wealth as well.

The boastful hare challenges the hedgehog for a race. The hedgehog conceives a trick. He and his wife are at the two ends of the running track and as the hare cannot distinguish them he believes that the hedgehog overcame him easily.

A goat had seven kids. Once the wolf watches as the old goat going away from home and he manages to get in the house fraudulently and he eats the kids. But the youngest kid hides from the wolf so he tells the mother goat what has happened. The goat looks for the full, peacefully sleeping wolf, cuts up his belly and sets her sons free. The stones placed in his belly pull the wolf in the stream where he drowns.

There was a woman who never had a child. One day she said that she does not care if the God gives her a puppy she would bring up it as well. Shortly a piggy came into the world, she named her Red-Piggy and she treated her as a child, and sent her to school as well. One day the neighbor-boy watched Red-Piggy as she was taking off the pig-coat and she changed into a beautiful girl. He proposed her and after the wedding when she took off the pig-coat her mother-in-law burned it so that she could never reconvert.

A boy after finishing his military service trains his goats with great success.

There was a woman and she had a foolish husband. She sent him to the market with a little cow to sell her. The man exchanged the cow for a pig, then exchanged the pig and so on till from the cow he had a knife-sharpener what he let fall into a stream so he returned home with empty hands. The woman sent him anywhere never again.

The frog, the sausage, and the mouse decided to be friends, to live together, and to share the work to do. So they take turns at doing the housework. The sausage can cook best because he cooks himself into the soup. When the frog wants to imitate it, he scalds himself and since that time the toad exists. But their friendship broke up.

The bear and the cat decide to build a house for themselves. When the autumn comes they put a can of fat and a pot of honey on the loft to have food in winter. While the bear is hibernating the cat is eating up all the food and when his friend wakes up and demands his share the cat outwits him and makes off.

A tale about a poor man who learns from the fox cunning and in the end he outwits the fox too.

An old king loses his nicely singing bird. His beautiful daughter announced that she will marry only that man who brings the bird back. Many princes tried it but in vain. In the end the kind-hearted servant-boy stands the tests, brings back the bird and he marries the princess.

Once the priest told a rich man, who has been in his whole life a usurer, he will get in the hell because of this life. He sent his three sons to learn a craft. After the apprenticeship, when the father was at death's door the sons were proud of being very successful in their crafts. The rich man asked the priest to come to him and redeem him from the hell and he left his wealth to the poor since his sons can survive anywhere. This is how the three boys got nothing for their pains.

The bladder, the straw and the fire-brand went to see the world. They arrive to a stream. The bladder and the straw swim it easily. The fire-brand is afraid that he will die out so he asks his friends to take him over. The straw burns away because of the fire-brand, the fire brand dies out because of the water and the bladder bursts his sides laughing.

The king in the tale got bored eating paprika chicken and other senna-manna time after time. He orders severely that only that kind of food can be served up what he has never eaten. His cook does his best but in vain. He escapes out of fear. When the king hears it he goes with his followers on the cook's trail. By the time they catch the cook up the king becomes so hungry that he immediately eats up the poor's food, the bread he found at the cook. It tastes so good that the bread must be always on the king's table since that time.
