History Rocks

Part 1 of a two-part retrospective of the 1970s pairs recollections of events and personalities with songs from the decade. Included: the 1978 Jonestown tragedy; Watergate; CB radios; the disappearance of Jimmy Hoffa; 747's and the Concorde jet; muscle cars; and Elvis' meeting with Richard Nixon. Among the artists whose music is featured are Blue Oyster Cult, Bachman-Turner Overdrive, Styx and Elton John.

Conclusion. A retrospective of the events and personalities of the 1970s. Included: the tragedy at the 1972 Munich Olympics; Pong; the Shah of Iran; Skylab; “The Babes of '79”; the 1979 meltdown at Three Mile Island; and the 1975 fall of Saigon. Artists whose songs are included: Blondie; Supertramp; the Police; and Lynyrd Skynyrd.

Segments on the `60s include the 1968 Democratic National Convention; the Summer of Love; the Pontiac GTO; Marilyn Monroe; the pill; the draft; and G.I. Joe.

Segments on the '60s include the Volkswagen Beetle; Timothy Leary's LSD trip; the race to the moon; the CIA attempt to assassinate Fidel Casro; Cassius Clay's conversion to Islam and the changing of his name to Muhammad Ali; and JFK conspiracy theories.

Events of the '80s are recalled. Included: Mikhail Gorbachev's perestroika; the eruption of Mount St. Helens; and the emergence of crack cocaine.
