On Midsummer's Eve 1973, Annie and her daughter Mia are on their way to the isolated Stjärnberg commune to start a new life with her boyfriend Dan. On the way, she finds two people murdered in a tent. That same night, Johan runs away from home and gets a lift from a mysterious woman. Almost 20 years later, in 1991, the tent murders at Lobberån are still affecting the people of Svartvattnet. Annie calls Birger in the middle of the night, when Mia comes home late in the company of a man Mia recognises from the past.
