In this episode, it’s night-time! Maddie visits a planetarium to learn how stars work. She discovers that stars are made in space by dust and gas, and when they press together, they get really, really hot and light up! She finds out that the sun is also a star, but because it’s closer to the Earth it looks much bigger than the stars we can see in space. She uses a special recording telescope camera to see the stars and moon really close up. Next, Maddie heads to an animation studio to see how a special type of film called a stop-frame animation film is made using puppets. She uses her special time-lapse camera to film the puppets as they only move a tiny bit at a time – it takes a whole day to put together just ten seconds of stop-frame animation!

In today’s episode, Maddie learns all about strong structures. She goes to a nature reserve to find out how a bird makes its nest using twigs, moss, leaves and dried grass. She also meets a bird expert to learn about cup nests. She uses the nature reserve's special camera to see how a bird makes its nest in a bird box, and also gets to witness the magical moment when the bird lays its eggs - one of the eggs hatches into a chick! Next, Maddie heads to a bike helmet factory, where she uses her special proscope camera to see a material called carbon fibre – the threads weave over and under and make the bike helmet really strong.

Maddie visits an electric car factory to find out how an electric car works. She learns that an electric car uses batteries and electricity to make the energy it needs to move. Using her special cameras, she shows us how these cars use something called regenerative braking to catch and use the energy that is normally lost when a car brakes. Next, Maddie heads to the beach, where she uses her thermal imaging camera to see how hot air and cold air make wind. We can use the wind to do really fun things – like fly a kite!

Today, Maddie is playing outdoors! She finds out how we move our bodies to keep a hula hoop up in the air and learns how a hula hoop uses something called centripetal force to keep it moving around in a circle. Maddie attaches a tiny special camera to the hula hoop so we can see centripetal force in action! Next, Maddie heads to a tent factory to see how they are made. She sees how lots of pieces of a waterproof material called nylon are cut out in one go using a special table that pushes out air to help the material move around. Then she uses her time-lapse camera to put up her own tent so we can see how all the parts of a tent work together to help it stay up and keep us dry from the rain.

In today’s episode, Maddie visits a reservoir that collects water from our homes, natural springs and the rain. She heads to a draw-off tower, which takes water from the reservoir and carries it along underground pipes to a water treatment plant. The plant uses lots of different cleaning tanks to make the water really clean. She uses her special camera on a pole to see inside one of the tanks. Next, Maddie visits a farm to find out how carrots grow from tiny seeds into big vegetables we can eat. She uses a special endoscope camera to see baby carrots growing underground. Afterwards, Maddie takes a ride on a harvester to see how carrots are dug out of the ground.

Today, Maddie is finding things! First, she visits an observatory to see how a really big radio telescope uses powerful computers to collect radio waves from space and turn them into a picture we can see. She uses a special time-lapse camera to see how the telescope moves up, down and around as it finds the radio waves. Next, Maddie heads to a giant maze, where she starts at the entrance and tries to find the middle! She then heads to a craft workshop to see how a wooden maze is made using something called a maze blank. She uses her special slow-motion camera to see the wood shavings flying off as a special device called a CNC machine drills out the maze path onto a block of wood.

Today, Maddie is on her bike! She visits a bike workshop to find out why different bike bells make different ringing sounds. Maddie uses her special slow-motion camera to see inside a ring bell so we can see how something called a beater spins around really quickly, hitting a bump called the butt to make a long ringing sound. Next, Maddie visits a rugby stadium to see how line markings are painted onto the pitch so that the players know where to play. Maddie attaches one of her special cameras to a line marking machine to see how it uses a sensor and a nozzle to keep the lines really straight!

Today, Maddie’s at sea! First she visits a boating lake, using her special underwater cameras to find out how the hull of a boat is shaped to help it float on water. She learns how even big heavy things can float because of a force called buoyancy. Next, Maddie heads to a beach to discover how sand is made. She explains how a process called weathering breaks the rocks down to small pieces and how all the tiny grains of rock make sand. She then uses a special microscope camera to see how thousands of bits of different minerals like quartz make up sand.

In today’s episode, Maddie is finding out about machines that use suction! She heads to a road sweeper depot to learn how all the parts of a road sweeper work together, cleaning up dirt and litter into a special bin inside the road sweeper called a hopper. Maddie attaches her special cameras onto the road sweeper so she can see it in action, before getting in for a ride. Maddie then watches the hopper as it is emptied into a skip – it’s really messy! Next, Maddie is at a paper straw factory, where she sees how paper straws are made out of strips of paper called ribbons. She uses her slow-motion camera to see how three layers of ribbon wrap onto a long pole called a mandrel to make a paper straw. They are chopped to the right size and packaged, ready to be used.

In today’s episode, Maddie is learning all about glass! She visits a glass recycling centre to see how the glass from our homes is recycled. When the glass arrives to the centre, it’s mixed with other materials like stone, ceramic and plastics, which together are called contaminants. Using her special slow-motion camera, Maddie sees how clever machines use magnets and powerful jets of air to get rid of all the contaminants. Next, Maddie visits a jam factory, where she helps to squeeze lemons and learns how a natural chemical in lemon peel called pectin works to stick the jam together. She uses her special camera to see how a giant pan heats frozen raspberries, sugar and lemon so the water evaporates and the mixture turns thick.

Today, Maddie is learning about colourful things! She visits a climbing wall centre, where she finds out how colourful holds on the wall help us to climb up it. And we learn how an auto-belay is used to help us to go up and down the wall safely. Next, Maddie heads to a modelling clay factory to see how brightly coloured modelling clay contains a plant ingredient called starch to make it thick. Maddie uses her special time-lapse camera to let us see all the ingredients mixed together by a big machine that turns the big lumps of clay into smooth modelling clay. We discover how an airtight tub helps keep the modelling clay malleable so it can be played with again and again.

In today’s episode, Maddie visits a forklift warehouse. She discovers how a forklift truck uses something called counterbalance to lift things really high without tipping over. She attaches a special camera to the forks of the truck to see it in action as it lifts heavy things up onto shelves. Next, she visits a dried fruit factory to see how lots of fun machines turn fresh apples into dried apple crisps. Maddie uses her special slow-motion camera to see how the apples are chopped into thin slices – it happens really quickly! And she discovers how big fans dry the apples out in something called a dehydrator, before being packaged and made ready to go the shops.

In today’s episode, Maddie learns about land and water! Maddie visits a port to find out how cars are loaded onto a ferry so they can be carried across the water. She then uses her special cameras to drive onto the ferry, and we see how a special floor called the garage deck is pushed up using a hydraulic ram to make a brand-new floor underneath! Next, Maddie heads to a globe factory to find out how globes are made. She sees how water and land are painted onto flat pieces of paper called gores. Using her special camera, she sees how the gores are carefully stuck onto the globe, going from flat to round.

Today, Maddie is learning all about baggage! She visits an airport to see how baggage goes from the check-in desk and onto an aeroplane using something called a destination tag, which makes sure each piece of baggage ends up on the right plane. She attaches her special cameras onto the suitcase as it goes along the baggage carousel – it goes up, down and around until it reaches a room called the baggage room. Next, Maddie visits a rucksack factory to see how a rucksack is made. We find out how all the pieces are cut out and stitched together to make the rucksack. Maddie uses her slow-motion camera to see how a special stitch called a bar tack stitch makes the handles of the rucksack really strong so we can carry heavy things.

Today, Maddie finds out about things you might have in your home! She visits a lamp workshop to discover how a lamp lets us see in the dark. She learns that inside a light switch is an electrical contact that lets electricity flow around a lamp so it can switch on and off. She uses her special proscope camera to see the tiny holes that make up a lampshade, which allow light from the lightbulb to come out. Next, Maddie visits a playhouse factory to learn how a playhouse is made. She finds out how a computer designs each side of the playhouse and how planks of wood are used to make it. She then uses her special time-lapse camera to see all the panels put together to make a playhouse.

Today, Maddie is using her senses to see and hear! She visits a speaker factory to understand what happens when we listen to music from a speaker. With the help of her special slow-motion camera, Maddie shows how vibrations make the speaker cones move up and down, creating the sounds we can hear. Next, Maddie is learning about colours, and how by mixing the primary colours of red, blue and yellow together we can make new colours called secondary colours. She then uses her special camera to see colours that have been mixed together, separated out into their primary colours using a special paper called chromatography paper. And Maddie looks through something called a prism made of glass, letting her see all the colours in light – it looks like a rainbow!
