“Nomad” has become a travel cliché in recent years, but Miriam and Peter are the real deal. In Bulgaria’s Rhodope Mountains, which at times resemble a South American rainforest, Mr Fogle joins the couple, whose lives are one huge hike through the wilderness. Their sole possessions on their backs, they forage and bow-hunt for food. Highlights include Ben’s face when he’s asked to wash his hair in his own pee. “I don’t think it’ll catch on in the Fogle household,” he winces.
There’s something hyper-real about these two “refugees from modern life”. She should audition for the next Tomb Raider movie, while he’d make a mean Gandalf.
