They called him a fascist, a warmongerer, a stubborn right winger, but it was Menahem Begin, who after three decades sitting in the government opposition, succeeded in his first term to lead Israel to a historic peace treaty with Egypt.

Begin is here to make a revolution, to dismantle the ruling hegemony, to 'do good with the people', with all the people. "The alliance of the deprived", he gathered around himself, arose the "Second tier Israel", the lower classes, up, and led to a passionate conflict between the polarized sides of the Israeli society.

Begin aspired to make peace, and did just that. He also insisted on the 'wholeness of the land' and dragged Israel into a bloody offensive war in Lebanon, which could be avoided, a war that led to his resignation, and the dramatic declaration, "I can't take it anymore!".
