After the death of her husband, Ella Schön inherits not only a house on Fischland with liabilites, but also Christina along with her kids, who live in the house.
Overwhelmed by the confrontation with her late husband's other wife, Ella does what she always does, when emotions get into the mix: switch to autopilot and go stoicly forward. Ella has asperger and due to that difficulties with social connections.
She wants to have the family leave the house as soon as possible, so she can sell the building and get back to her old life, which gives her certainty. A catastrophe for Christina - a safeguard for Ella.
Even though it's tough for Ella to suddenly live under the same roof with strangers, she grows fond of their naturalness. She gets to know the inhabitans of the half-island, especially the grumpy lawyer Kollkamp, who dotes on her. Slowly but surely, her fascade crumbles and people discover Ella's vulnerability and warmness behind her strange and quirky stubbornness...
