At Rugby, Tom Brown runs afoul of school bully Flashman.

The newbies at Rugby are subjected to the school's long-time custom of blanket tossing.

Tom manages to survive his first term at Rugby despite Flashman's bullying but things could get even worse when school re-assembles.

Flashman manages to successfully frame Tom for poaching and he gets a flogging from Dr. Arnold as a result.
