Wolnicki, thanks to the kindness of the local priest, moves into the rectory and starts working as an organist. There he meets Karolina. Her husband disappeared a year ago, and she still has no news of him. Karolina and Piotr get along well. Their relationship is closely watched by Maciek, the son of Mira, a local policewoman.
Polkowska obtains evidence that may indicate that Wolnicki is alive and in contact with his son. She demands the exhumation of the body and the reopening of the investigation. Will the police help her? In the meantime, Piotr tries to find out more about the local residents. He also observes a group of young people who have just arrived for a retreat.
