Jonas, who has cancer, is to have a lower leg amputated. He becomes the new room-mate of Leo, who has been in hospital for many months and also has cancer. Leo lost his leg some time ago and the two boys share the same fate. Leo and Jonas quickly become friends. They decide that Jonas absolutely must have a farewell party for his leg. But a real party also needs a girl - and the only girl Leo can think of is Emma, who is being treated for her eating disorder on another ward. In addition to Jonas, another new patient is admitted to the hospital: Alex, who collapsed in the school playground after a heart attack. He is put in a room with little Hugo, who has been in a coma for two years.
