Lars Monsen has set himself the goal of winning the Iditarod, the world's toughest sled dog race. After a prolonged controversial treatment for Lyme disease, he is still not healthy. Now he will take part in Mush Synnfjell, 2014 season's first race. It will give him an idea of ​​where he and his team rests at the entrance of season three.

Lars Monsen is dependent on a good support team around him when he is assembling a top tier dog sled team. The most importantperson from the support team is Elin Berntsen who has always put the dogs in front of everything else in life. Even after she got diagnosed with cancer in August 2009, she was back in place during Finnmarksløpet half a year later, a week after the last chemotherapy treatment. After finishing in 9th place during Femundløpet, Lars Monsen and his team are ready for the season's toughest race, the 1000 km long Finnmarksløpet. Some youngsters have already shown that they are good, but now Lars will test some more of the 2,5 year olds. And the challenges prove be tougher than expected.

Lars Monsen must recognize that the sled team has not withstood the harsh strains during this years Finnmarksløp. Even his most experienced leader dogs, Alit and Ganda, has resigned. Lars must give up the goal of a top 5 placement, but refuses to give up. He wants to give the dogs the experience of completing the race.
