The Case-Book of Sherlock Holmes

A sordid man plays with the lives of so many people by committing the most horrible of crimes: blackmail. Many of his victims are ruined to save themselves, others are forced to dishonor or death. Sherlock Holmes is hired by Gwen, an elderly lady, to save Lady Eva Blackwell from the clutches of Charles Augustus Milverton, the most abject blackmailer. He will succeed thanks to the trustworthy Watson and his courage, in an adventure in which he will challenge, for once, the legality and the same Scotland Yard. A case therefore more than action than deduction, in which the detective has to deal with a formidable rogue and with continuous twists, even more than with a puzzle to solve. For the first and only time in his career he will declare his friend Watson to be engaged.
