The Austrian empire has withstood the 1848 uprising, but tensions remain. However, the young Emperor Franz Joseph has something else on his mind: love. Although his mother wants to associate him with the Bavarian princess Helene, it is Helene's younger sister Elisabeth, nicknamed Sisi, that makes him crazy. Franz Joseph goes against his mother's will, but the love between him and Sisi is not only tested by his meddlesome mother.
