My Money and Me

In episode 1, Kathriona meets Lorna and Keith who live in Artane, with their two kids, Ryan and Faye. Lorna and Keith face a problem common to a lot of Irish homeowners – negative equity. Lorna & Keith bought a home in Roscommon at the height of Ireland’s property boom. They had expected to call it home for years to come but, when Keith got his dream job managing the Artane band, they moved back to rent in Dublin. They are eager to feel at home again, but as second time buyers, they will need a 20% deposit for a house in Dublin but at the moment can’t identify areas where they can make savings. Can Kathriona and Sinead help them to find savings in their lifestyle that can start their deposit for a new home? This week, together with the My Money & Me consumer panel, Dr. Pete Lunn shows us that when it comes to spending, we don’t just care about value for money – other factors influence our decisions too.

In episode 2, we meet Catherine Delaney from Portlaoise. She works part time in a canteen and runs a busy household, with four of her six children still living at home. Saving regularly is a habit that Sinead and Kathriona are keen for Catherine to begin… particularly if she wants to save enough money to bring the family to her daughter’s wedding in Lanzarote in two years.
