In this episode we take a look at some facts, secrets, and history of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. The Thousand-Year Door is the second installment in the Paper Mario series, and was released for the Nintendo GameCube in 2004, and titled "Paper Mario RPG" in Japan. The game underwent many changes as it was translated for western audiences, resulting in several plot points and references being lost in translation. The Thousand-Year Door was well received however, and attained countless awards and accolades from the gaming press. The game went on to sell around 2.25 million units worldwide.

To celebrate the Nintendo Switch being revealed, we take a look at one of the company's earlier and more obscure titles. This time around we look at the gameplay of The Mysterious Murasame Castle (謎の村雨城 Nazo no Murasame Jō). Built on the Zelda engine, it's a much more action orientated title. Our analysis led us to some interesting conclusions.

This time on Region Locked we take a look at the bizzare PS1 rarity known as Dream Emulator. Through our analysis of its gameplay and investigation, we discover why this game was never brought to the west.

With the release of Game Freak's latest title, Pokemon Sun & Moon, we decided to take a look back at one of their earliest games. Mario and Wario was unique in that, despite being a Japanese exclusive, it was actually presented in English. In our analysis, we showcase this SNES title's gameplay with Mario, Luigi, Yoshi and Princess Peach, and consider why it stayed in Japan.

In this episode, we take a look at the first collaboration between Namco and Capcom, simply titled Namco X Capcom. The title is a strategy RPG with some unique elements that helped spawn other popular titles such as the Project X Zone series

In the run up to The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild, we take a look at one of Nintendo's lesser known Japan exclusive games that impacted the Zelda series. The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening shares many elements with the title we're exploring in this episode. Through our analysis we'll show connections to the Zelda series, such as how Link's Awakening uses For The Frog The Bell Tolls' game engine. The gameplay we show comes from a translated rom hack of the game.

With the recent announcements covering Yakuza's western releases, we decided to talk about a Yakuza title that we're highly unlikely to ever see in the west. Ryū ga Gotoku Ishin follows Sakamoto Ryoma during the Bakumatsu period of Japan, and has a fair share of historical Japanese themes. The game originally released for the PlayStation 3 (PS3), but was also ported to the PlayStation 4 (PS4) as a launch title in the Japanese region. Through our analysis, we hope to explains some of the title's gameplay and give some insight as to why it stayed in Japan. Fans will notice how this game is distinct form the recently released Yakuza 0.

We take a look at one of the most bizarre characters to appear within Namco's Tekken universe as a kind of cameo Easter egg - Gon. Originally appearing on the Super Nintendo (SNES), Gon is a notable figure in Japanese media. In our analysis of Gon's background and gameplay, we explore his origins as a Manga and what happened after his appearance in Tekken 3.

In this episode of Region Locked, we take a look at Enix's first Nintendo (NES) game, Door Door. Through our analysis of Door Door's gameplay and its history, we hope to shed some light on why this game never left Japanese shores.

With the release of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild for the Nintendo Switch and Wii U, Region Locked takes a look at another Nintendo game by one of Zelda's key developers, Eiji Aonuma, titled Marvelous: Another Treasure Island. Through our analysis of Marvelous' gameplay and its history, we hope to shed some light on why this game never left Japanese shores.

After the reveal of Sonic Forces, we decided to explore more Sega the weird world of the Dreamcast's SEGAGAGA, the Sega 'Simulator' mixed RPG. This game never saw a release outside of Japan, and we felt that it was particularly noteworthy. Through our analysis of Segagaga's gameplay, we found that the game references all kinds of Sega franchises such Sonic The Hedgehog, Alex Kidd, Phantasy Star and Golden Axe!
