"Boys of Fall" is a football documentary about life. Executive Producer and Country Superstar, Kenny Chesney began shooting footage and football interviews for his new single "The Boys of Fall" in fall 2009. After shooting footage of friend and New Orleans Saints' coach Sean Payton at his high school alma mater, Chesney decided to expand the video into a full documentary film. Over the next several months he filmed youth football games, high school football games & locker room speeches as well as interviews with football greats. Interviews include Troy Aikman, Bobby Bowden, Mack Brown, Tony Dungy, Brett Favre, John Madden, Peyton Manning, Joe Namath, Sean Payton, Bill Parcells, Nick Saban and Jim Tressel. After an introduction that includes Payton speaking to his old high school team in the locker room before a big game, it depicts how those who do not go on to long, storied careers in the NFL, like high school wide receiver Chesney, the lessons learned on the field help to shape who they are today.

Nicknamed "Charlie Hustle," for his efforts on the field, Rose, now 71, agreed to a lifetime ban from baseball in 1989 after an investigation concluded he bet on games when he was the manager for the Cincinnati Reds. The ban has left him ineligible for induction into the Hall of Fame. He leads baseball with 4,256 career hits.

For a generation of young sports fans who found their inspiration on the shelves of the local public library or at school book fairs, Alfred Slote is a name revered and cherished. With novels such as "Hang Tough, Paul Mather," "Stranger on the Ball Club," and "Tony and Me," his unique ability to evoke real empathy for his characters influenced countless adolescent readers. While all of these books are "baseball books" on the surface, Slote's real interest as a storyteller was not the game, but the people, and he elevated the genre of the children's sports book by creating human dramas where the real action was off the field.

"Ali: The Mission" delves into perhaps one of the most important, but least known, feats of Muhammad Ali's remarkable life. In 1990, the boxing legend traveled to Iraq to press a plea for peace and negotiate with Saddam Hussein for the release of U.S. civilians taken hostage after Iraq's invasion of Kuwait. Ali risked his reputation, health and safety for the freedom of prisoners held by Hussein as "human shields" to deter U.S. military strikes. Only six weeks after Ali brought 15 hostages back home to their relieved families, Operation Desert Storm bombarded Iraq.

The T206 Honus Wagner is the most famous baseball card in the world. Bought and sold many times over, the card has now appreciated to nearly $3 million dollars. But, this gem may have been doctored. From mere speculation, the accusations of alteration have risen all the way to federal indictments. But this is still 'just' a baseball card. It is a small square in the tapestry of our national pastime. And, as the art world readily illustrates, it may be that no matter what was done or not done to 'The Card,' its value really does lie in the eye of the beholder.

During the summer of 2012, a secret meeting took place. But this was no ordinary gathering; instead, a monumental choice was to be made. Reuniting over four decades after the USA men's Olympic basketball team controversially lost the gold to the Russians and declined the silver medal, the 12 team members reunited in Lexington, Ky. to make a decision. And like the jury in "12 Angry Men," the verdict needed to be unanimous -- accept, or forever refuse the medals for a game many of them believe they never lost.

In 1954, before his senior year of high school, Wilt Chamberlain took a summer job as a bellhop at Kutsher's Country Club, a Jewish resort in the Catskill Mountains. By day he was making $2 an hour and getting great tips from the awestruck guests as he lifted their luggage through a second-floor window … while standing outside on the ground. At night, he played on the Kutsher's basketball team and was coached by the resort's athletic director, Celtics coach Red Auerbach. Mixing rarely seen archival video and interviews with people who lived and worked with Wilt, this short chronicles a pivotal chapter in the life of one of the game's greatest players, and gives a fascinating glimpse into a time when basketball met the Borscht Belt in its heyday.

The season's schedule for major league baseball affects the lives and moods of millions of Americans. Each year executives and managers ridicule the logic, sportswriters and broadcasters question the sanity, and athletes and fans cast blame. Yet not many people know how it is that the MLB schedule is figured out, and even fewer have any idea what is involved. The masterminds for 25 years behind this massive logistical undertaking were Henry and Holly Stephenson. A husband and wife duo working out of an upstairs bedroom in their Staten Island home with a computer, a pencil and a great deal of cooperation. How did this mom-and-pop team ever end up with the daunting and thankless job of MLB scheduling? This is the story of how the Stephensons landed their first MLB contract and became "The Schedule Makers."

In the early hours of Saturday, July 27, 1996, a terrorist's bomb exploded into a crowd at the Atlanta Summer Olympics, killing two and injuring 111. The toll would have been far higher if not for security guard Richard Jewell, who discovered the bag holding the bomb and helped clear the area. Yet within hours of his heroism, Jewell was being called a murderer, hounded for months by the government and the largest media gathering in history. The true bomber was later convicted, but when Jewell died in 2007 he was still widely remembered as a victim at best, a killer at worst. Judging Jewell revisits the scene of the crime where Richard Jewell lost the one thing valued most -- his honor.

In the 1970s, the rust-belt city of Milwaukee used public funds to commission an eccentric, openly gay artist from the Bowery in New York City to paint the Bucks basketball floor. In 1988, the Bucks moved across the street to the newly constructed Bradley Center -- leaving the MECCA Arena floor in storage, all but forgotten by the general public.
Fast-forward 25 years -- Bucks fan Andy Gorzalski, discovers the floor for sale for scrap, listed online as a "gym floor." Against better judgment, Andy puts his family's credit card down for $20k to protect this iconic symbol of Milwaukee and basketball history. Over the next year, Andy and another fan, Ben Kohler, team up with Robert Indiana to re-construct and re-exhibit the floor -- serving as the inspiration for the Milwaukee Bucks to redesign a new home court floor for their '13-14 NBA season based on the original MECCA design.

Reggie Ho never dreamed of playing football in college. Growing up in Hawaii and from Chinese descent, Reginald Ho always visualized himself to be a doctor like his father. He enrolled at Notre Dame pre-med and didn't think much of playing football until he decided he needed a more well-rounded life. He was the placekicker on his high school football team and decided to walk on to the Notre Dame football team.
At 5-foot-5 and 135 pounds, Reggie Ho was one of the smallest players in a major college football program and was now a sudden celebrity on and off campus. As a walk-on, Reggie Ho didn't receive any financial support for Notre Dame. He was a pure student athlete who played for the love of the game and for the love of Notre Dame. After the 1988 season, the senior walk-on walked off the field. Ho continued his pre-med degree at Notre Dame, but no longer played football. Yet he was a crucial part in Notre Dame's most recent undefeated season.

Ted Williams was already one of baseball's immortals when two of his three children decided there might be a way to give him life after death. That way was cryogenics, and in this film directed by Miles Kane and Josh Koury, the 2002 controversy over what to do with his remains -- "The Big Chill" read one headline -- is revived.
Doctors, writers and intimates offer up their opinions, but the one truth that shines through is this: love works in mysterious ways.

When the Princeton men's basketball team saw that it would have to face No. 1 seed Georgetown in the first round of the 1989 NCAA tournament, sophomore guard Jerry Doyle thought, "Why don't we just go to spring break and find some other guys to go to Providence?"
Good thing they didn't.
The Pete Carill-coached Tigers played one of the greatest games in college basketball history and relieved the mounting pressure to eliminate mid-majors from March Madness. The tournament would not be what it is today -- a billion-dollar enterprise that stops America for two weeks -- without the yesterday of March 17, 1989, and a game brought vividly back to life in this film.

The Amazin' Mets became even more so in the spring of 1985 when Sports Illustrated profiled their latest phenom: Sidd Finch, a Harvard dropout who spoke 10 languages, played the French horn, wore one hiking boot-and threw 168 mph.
It was an elaborate hoax, of course, dreamed up by the late, great George Plimpton for the magazine's April 1 issue, but SI and the Mets had some people believing that fiction was truth.
Director Peter Sillen revisits with the people who made it all possible, including the gangly, bespectacled Joe Berton, the man who truly brought Sidd to life.

1984 was a grim year for the San Francisco Giants. The team finished dead last, losing 96 games. But no one -- not the players, not the front office, not even the fans -- had as nightmarish a time as Wayne Doba. That season, the 33-year-old actor was selected to play the club's first mascot.
The "Crazy Crab" was conceived as an anti-mascot. The Giants wanted to satire the late 1970's mascot craze, which had introduced now-iconic characters like the Phillie Phanatic. So the Giants gave their Crab an intentionally shabby foam costume which looked like a hamburger with arms; during spring training, TV ads showed manager Frank Robinson attempting to strangle the Crab; at games, announcers would encourage fans to boo whenever the Crab took the field.
It was an experiment unlike anything in professional sports.

When Ted Turner entered his yacht Tenacious in the famed Fastnet Race in 1979, he did not need to prove himself. He had already started a television network, purchased the Atlanta Braves and Hawks, and won the 1977 America's Cup.
But a freakish storm turned the Celtic Sea into a terrifying washing machine that tossed the 303 entrants about and killed 15 sailors.
In this 30 For 30 short for ESPN Films, Turner and many of his crew members relive that harrowing -- and ultimately victorious -- voyage amid riveting footage and photographs. Never was a boat so aptly named.

FDR once said to the head of his spy agency, "Give my regards to the catcher." Why would the President of the United States say that? Because "the catcher" was Moe Berg, who spent 15 seasons in the majors before taking up espionage for the government.
In "Spyball," directors Christina Burchard and Daniel Newman tell the extraordinary story of Berg, a linguist, lawyer and .243 lifetime hitter whom Casey Stengel called "the strangest man to ever play the game of baseball." Educated at Princeton and Columbia, he was friends with Babe Ruth, Albert Einstein and the Marx Brothers, but it was his loyalty to his country that truly distinguished him.
His surreptitious filming of Tokyo during a 1934 baseball tour helped prepare the Doolittle Raid bombing of that city during World War II, and the intelligence he provided at the end of that war assured FDR that the Americans were ahead of the Nazis in the race to create an atomic bomb.
Adding to the appeal of this documentary is the dramatic narration by another eccentric former player Bill "The Spaceman" Lee.

The Special Olympics Athlete Oath: "Let me win. But if I cannot win, let me brave in the attempt," has come to embody the movement started by the late Eunice Kennedy Shriver in 1962 with a summer camp in her Maryland backyard.
Special Olympics is now made up of more than 4.5 million athletes all over the world, and in this powerful and moving exploration viewers will see how this world-changing social action, sports and political initiative was born, and why its growth is so important.
"Brave in the Attempt" captures the force of nature that was Eunice Shriver and shows how her personal mission, inspired by her sister Rosemary Kennedy's own struggles with inclusion, to improve the lives of children and adults with intellectual disabilities eventually developed into the Special Olympics movement.

How do you remember someone who did so much in so short a time? This film produced and directed for ESPN's 30 for 30 Shorts series by Grant Curtis brings Joe Delaney back to life 32 years after his tragic death. Viewers will see him in all his glory, as an electrifying wide receiver in Haughton, Louisiana, as a tailback at Northwestern State, and as the Kansas City Chiefs' hope for the future.
The fastest running back in the NFL, he was also quick to lend a helping hand, and as his teammates, coaches and family attest, he was as wonderful off the field as he was on it. But on June 29, 1983, he went to save three boys drowning in a pond in Monroe, Louisiana - even though he himself could not swim. He died the way he lived, giving all he could.

On the night of Oct. 30, 2001, President George W. Bush stepped onto the mound at Yankee Stadium to throw out the first pitch at Game 3 of the World Series, just six weeks after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. With New York City and the entire country still trying to heal, the ceremonial first pitch that night meant more than "play ball." ESPN Films' new 30 for 30 Short "First Pitch" looks at how important that famous pitch was to the nation, and how baseball became a part of the recovery after 9/11.
The 23-minute film, directed by two-time Academy Award-winning director Angus Wall and executive produced by Jim Gray, relives that anxious October night and the days leading up to it with behind-the-scenes footage and interviews from President Bush, Derek Jeter, Condoleezza Rice, Joe Torre, Rudy Giuliani, Billy Crystal, George Tenet, Bush family members, Cabinet officers and Secret Service agents. "First Pitch" recounts stories from the Yankees' visit to the New York City Armory, where they comforted citizens looking for lost family members, as well as what it took for the president's Secret Service team to safely allow him to throw out the pitch.

Pittsburgh was the center of the sports world in 1979, home to the Super Bowl champion Steelers and the World Series champion Pirates. The Pirates and their rallying cry of “We Are Family” brought a renewed sense of pride to the city. But as it turned out, the family was dangerously dysfunctional, with many members succumbing to the temptation of cocaine and dragging baseball into a nationwide scandal. This film revisits that era and paints a picture of how, by 1985, easy drugs and fast nights brought the national pastime from the diamond to a federal courtroom.

The late Leonard Tose was a genius and a fool, a saint and a sinner, a larger-than-life character worthy of a motion picture. In fact, veteran producer and director Mike Tollin tried to sell Hollywood on a biopic about the former Philadelphia Eagles owner. Foiled in that attempt, Tollin has directed and narrated this amusing and touching tribute to the man who got the Eagles to their first Super Bowl. Produced in conjunction with NFL Films, Tose is the story of a man who had it all and then lost most of it. But he remains, in the eyes of his former quarterback Ron Jaworski, "the best owner in football."

There was a time when a football player was asked to play both offense and defense, when a running back might switch over to linebacker, or a safety might transform into a wideout. That was the way it was before unlimited substitution was introduced in the '60s. It was also a double standard that was revived 20 years later for one very special player. His name was Gordie Lockbaum, and when his coaches at Division 1-AA Holy Cross saw how talented he was, they decided to turn back the clock. In this 30 for 30 Short, produced and directed by Erin Leyden, Lockbaum and witnesses look back on the heady days when he might play in 143 of the Crusaders' 170 plays, attracted national attention, and became a finalist for the Heisman Trophy-twice, in 1986 and 1987. Though he was too undersized to make an NFL roster, Lockbaum remains a very big man on the Holy Cross campus.

With four weeks to go in the 1996-97 NBA season, and an opportunity for the Chicago Bulls to win their fifth title in seven years, power forward Dennis Rodman hurt his knee. So coach Phil Jackson assigned a young assistant trainer, Wally Blasé, to oversee his rehab in Orange County, Calif. In this delightful film, director Colin Hanks uses both animation and first-person confessions to relive their wild 10 days together: the trips to Dallas, Hollywood, San Diego and Sacramento; the brushes with Prince, Richard Petty and Rodney Dangerfield; the girls, the drinks, the fast cars, the limos and the choppers. Not only did Wally and the Worm came out of the adventure alive, but they also became close friends. Oh, and thanks to Rodman, the Bulls did win that fifth championship.
