Early riser Konny is still lying in bed while late sleeper Manu is already out jogging around the neighborhood. Konny also plans to take the longest canoe trip of his life, and Manu is supposed to support him from land. However, there are two catches: he doesn’t have a phone with him, and the surf in Hawaii is treacherous in winter.

While Manu is having her cleaning day, Konny tries to jack up the bus so he can work underneath it. Manu insists on an extra safety measure before she’ll even consider getting under the vehicle — and that sets off a chainsaw massacre in the garden. Konny also realizes that the salty tropical climate in Hawaii is putting Konny Island at risk and that an urgent major renovation is needed.

The big Konny Island makeover is underway, and first on Konny’s list is building a roof over the jacuzzi. On top of that, it’s his wife’s birthday, and Konny wants to surprise her. He plans a joint hike on the most dangerous trail in Hawaii. When it rains, the extremely steep coastal path turns into a mud-covered wasteland—small streams become raging rivers. And even shopping for the camping gear turns into a nerve-wracking ordeal.

The Konny Island makeover is keeping the couple busy. Paths need reinforcing, the jungle in front of the house needs a fresh trim, and the last remaining coconut palm may even have to be cut down. It’s sick—like almost all palm trees in Hawaii. Konny also gets a large tattoo: an oversized Hamburg coat of arms on his chest. But after the painful procedure, he isn’t entirely satisfied with the result.

The time has finally come, and Konny and Manu fly to the neighboring island of Kauai to hike the dangerous Kalalau Trail. Things get tricky even while packing: they have to spend a night in the wilderness, and everything needs to fit into two backpacks. But the biggest problem is the rain. It turns the trail into a dangerous muddy landscape, and right there, Manu starts having trouble with her shoes.

Konny and Manu leave Hawaii for the Caribbean island of Barbados. Once they arrive, they are greeted by their driver, Roger. While Konny is dealing with a finger injury, Manu is on the phone with a friend who dreams of living on Barbados. They explore the island without a plan or a guidebook. Konny discovers his love for a hardware store and befriends a German expatriate. Are the Reimanns maybe thinking about relocating their home base?
