The contestants finally discover they are not alone - this is a race, and only member of the team that reaches the island first is in with a shot at the £200,000 prize. The halfway point arrives but both teams are far from reaching their target. South Beach's bridge has been destroyed by rough tides, while the North Beach contestants have fallen apart by tension and in-fighting. Just when it seems all hope is lost, Aldo Kane offers the teams a lifeline in the form of a tug-of-war challenge, which sees them literally fighting over 100ft of bridge in the hope of pulling it back to their own beach.
Host AJ Odudu throws the teams a curveball: any contestant can now put themselves forward to switch beaches, and at least one member of each side must move to their rival team.
