The Not Just Bikes YouTube channel was launched just over a year ago, with the upload of "What Makes a City Great?" in October of 2019. The channel has been much more popular than I ever could have expected, and it has changed a lot in just one year. I made this video as a way of looking back over the past year of Not Just Bikes. I'm also launching a new channel called "NJB Live", which will host the live streams for Not Just Bikes. ast summer, we took advantage of the international travel ban, and visited Giethoorn, in the Netherlands, while it was (relatively) free of tourists. Giethoorn is an interesting autoluw (nearly car-free) town, where the primary mode of transportation is by boat. This video explores some of Giethoorn, and the thing that make it so unique.

While we were in Switzerland in May, we took the opportunity to travel on the "Slowest Express Train in the World", the Glacier Express. This is a scenic train that travels between the Alpine towns of Zermatt and St. Moritz, in Switzerland.

The Glacier Express travels between the Swiss Alpine towns of Zermatt and St. Moritz. Only one of these towns is car-free however, and wow, what a difference that makes! This video compares these two tourist towns, and it really shows the difference that it makes to restrict personal vehicles. I've been to a lot of cities around the world and I've discovered a kind of "Universal Law of Cities": the less car-friendly a place is, the nicer it is to be there. This is very apparent when comparing Zermatt to St. Moritz.

When I was in Montréal I was fortunate enough to cycle around for a day with one of the engineers who designed much of their recent bicycle infrastructure. In this video, I show what it was like to cycle in Montréal from a camera attached to my backpack.
