Israel's Generals

Part one focuses on Moshe Dayan and provides a detailed personal and political portrait of the controversial Israeli general turned statesman. The film looks at Dayan's crowning moment in 1967, when the Soviet-equipped armies of Egypt and Syria were threatening to invade Israel and he was appointed Defence Minister. His appointment was a great boost to morale and in the media; the subsequent victory over the combined armies of Egypt, Syria and Jordan in just six days was later credited mainly to him. Part One features interviews with Henry Kissinger (former US Secretary of State), Asi Dayan (Moshe Dayan's son), Haidar Abdel-Shafi (Palestinian leader) and Uri Avnery.

Part two traces Yitzhak Rabin's career from a brigade commander at 25, to his elevation to chief of staff in 1964 and his rise to "superstardom". Through interviews with Rabin's sister and daughter, as well as close political advisers, friends and insiders, including Shimon Peres and former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, this episode traces his shift from general to self-proclaimed "soldier in the army of peace".

The final episode of Israel's Generals is a timely look at one of Israel's most loved and most loathed figures, Ariel "Arik" Sharon. Sharon's path is chronicled in this documentary, from a commander who carried out the ugly side of political decisions and crushed dissent with an iron fist, to the father of the settlement movement and a hard-line politician whose right-wing Likud coalition shattered 29 years of Labour Party rule in the 1977 elections. Using file interviews, historical vision and interviews with political activists and insiders, including Sharon's son Omri, Israel's General follows a controversial figure from military hero to national disgrace and his subsequent rise to Prime Minister.
